Ikea Kitchen Planner + Smart Draw

2004_11_24_ikea.gifThis just in. As we have struggled to find a good way to draw floorplans that were a. emailable, b. easily changeable, c. reproduceable and d. not visually offensive, we used

a. Visio (good, but too expensive if you just want floorplans)
b. 3D Home Architect (just plain cheesy)
c. Smart Draw (We're happy. It's simple, designed for floorplans, and $180).

2004_11_24_smart.gifThat said, for anyone else who doesn't want to drop the bucks and just wants to rework an office or kitchen, the tip is all Ikea:

IKEA has simple planners for their office line and kitchen lines. They're pre-loaded with IKEA products (natch) but you can use them to visualize layouts quickly. I haven't used the office planner, but I have used the kitchen planner extensively. It's small, fast and clean.

(other localized versions available from your country's IKEA site)

Thanks, Marc! MGR

Kohler has a neat bath design program. You fill it with Kohler products, and then you have your layout. You can customize wall height and thicknesses and window and door sizes. You can view it in 3D from multiple angles. So, you can check the view from the bath, the john or wherever.

Trawling around the web looking for birthday presents for some food-obsessed friends I came across www.onlinekitchenware.co.uk - a great clean site with good graphics and lots of info - very seductive and very easy to spend somewhat more than you intend!
The range includes some great pots and pans, all sorts of kitchen gadgets, and designer “accoutrements” including a Siemens-Porsche Coffee machine & Dualit Toasters. But then there’s the Guzzini tableware, Henckels Knives and the Mauviel Cooper pans.
