New Website: Gothic Cabinet Craft

gothic.jpg
What's the matter with Gothic Cabinet Craft? This is a question we have often been asked. Our answer? Um, nothing, except that their furniture is very simple and traditional....but not exactly in a stylish way. We have relied on Gothic Cabinet Craft more than a few times in our life in New York and regard it as very useful in a pinch, but be careful to finish and seal the wood, or it gets dirty and won't last long (We bought two wooden stools, didn't finish them, and they expanded in the humidity and fell apart before the summer was over).

Gothic is good! They do have very low prices on apartment staples (big 70% sale right now). And they have a brand new website - much needed - that make it easier to see everything they have and what the prices are. MGR

If you have a review for Gothic Cabinet Craft, do tell....comment below.

Knossos is as I recall another, similar outfit but never got a chance to check them out in detail. I recall it's on 6th ave near 14th street or thereabouts.

It's true, some of the furniture is traditional in a non-stylish way, but some of the other stuff is perfectly simple, and a lot of the pieces bear in mind the cramped space within a NYC apartment (like the platform bed with the optional fitting drawers). I've had an unfinished bookcase for at least three years now and it's fine (meant to paint it myself but haven't as yet gotten around to it). For furniture that is solidly built you can't beat the price.

This has probably got to be the best furniture on the planet for the money

Gothic has come a long way but something peopel dont know is they also do custom work. We had our kitchen done and a bathroom cabinet to fit. We had a more traditional look in mind and the pc. came out fab. They also have a great design center in westchester.

I bought a bedroom set from Gothic a few months ago and I'm very pleased with it. I had it finished in red oak and it looks and feels wonderful. The price was good and the service was outstanding. I highly recommended for those smart souls who go for something practical and that would stand up to passing trends.

I am looking for the closest store to me - in Westchester County, NY or Southern Connecticut. I am located in Pound Ridge, NY 10576.

Do not buy a bed from this company! I recently bought a queen-size platform bed and not three weeks later the bed broke. Why? Because they used finishing nails on 1'' wood ledge that is supposed to support the weight of the matress and its occupants. Nails, especially finishing nails, are the WORST thing to use in terms of safety and support.

If this had been a child's bunkbed or -god forbid- a crib, this would have certainly resulted in severe injury or death. As is, my shoulder is killing me. (Mind you, I weigh 115 and my boyfriend weighs 180, and while this is well within limit of any weight restrictions on any kind of bedframe or mattress, I do not believe 40 finishing nails is sufficient enough support.) Parents: you have been warned.

And no, customer service has NOT been of any help thus far. I highly recommend buying from a company who knows how to manufacture a safe piece of furniture and are willing to stand behind their work. Gothic Cabinet "Craft" is a terrible joke.

They do have good value furniture and good after service. I suggest for Kate to go and see what they can do in a nice way, UNLESS you were doing nasty things that lead to the breaking of the bed!!! I've had the queen platform bed for over 3 years and I weigh 200 lbs and my girlfreind is about 125.

Kate,
You said that you bought a queen size platform bed. Was it the galazy platform bed, and does anyone have experience with this model?

Thx!

Bob, just out of curiousity, where do YOU suggest "doing nasty things" if not in a bed? Perhaps my kitchen table will be more stable? Maybe the great outdoors? You're response boarders on offensive. Even IF I was in the act of passion, the bed should have held up, that's what beds are supposed to do: stay in one piece. Furthermore, I have been as nice as possible with the franchise owner, considering I sustained and injury and this bed only lasted 20 days. Corporate is now involved and dealing with this particular (and troublesome) franchise owner. Bottom line: don't blame the victim.

Dee, no I did not have the galaxy model, it was the "Shaker Style" platform bed. If you really want this (or any) bed, I suggest you take a very hard look at the model in the store. If you do not see nails, screws, or bolt heads it is probably because there are only deeply sunken finishing nails, installed via a nail gun. For a little extra money an iron bed may be a safer and sturdier bet...

Hey Now!!!
All this ganging up on Kate over a bed, which is, of course, a place to do the "nasty," if that's what one calls it. I am about to buy (Gothic's)their platform bed, the one with the drawers underneath. Has anyone else had their bed fall apart, or anything even remotely as useless?

I am not sure about the furniture because after waiting 6 hours (2 past the agreed delivery time) I have yet to see my order. What I have experienced is lies from various workers at the store, seriously bad attitude and I swear the B word behind my back (note to store manager hold receiver with hand if you are going to talk about customers behind thier back). The last thing that was said after I had to call into my job to tell them I was going to be late is "you want it or not because my order is not important to them and not worth talking on the phone with me for. It is a $500 item and if it isn't worth it to them then why do they even bother selling things.

Do not buy at Gothic. I went to purchase an item, a dresser, I put a deposit down. They called me a week later to tell me they no longer stocked this item. They also requested I come in to get my deposit ( or see about my deposit as they put it). I bought another item somewhere else and it took me 1 1/2 month to get back to Gothic. They then told me I could not get my deposit back because they now had the item . ? Hello- they told me they did not. When I argued I was then told I could get my deposit back, less 10%. HEllo again- they did not have the item, what right do they have to keep 10%. I got mad and then was told I could not get my money back at all. Of course, I will get it back through my credit card company, but still, bad experience . Don't go. Check out more awful Gothic experiences at citysearch.com
