Dining room in Fremantle, Australia
We love this. We just heard about Normal Room and wish we could merge. In fact, this is sort of what we're trying to do with our 3.0 version coming next month, but this is so cool. Normal Room is a database of rooms from around the world. While it isn't too pretty, their idea is grand...
Normal Room shows you interior design and home furniture from all around the globe. Search our image database and explore the differences and similarities in architecture and home decoration between people in different countries.
Based in Finland (where all the cool stuff comes from), it's got about 1000 members each putting in about 1.5 pictures each with almost 1700 comments.
We recommend clicking over and taking a look. You can search by room, key word or by country. There's also a floorplan that you can mouse over. Again, most of it's not too pretty, but it promises to be a great resource for us.
Regina covered Normal Room on Apartment Therapy on Jan. 22, 2007. ;-)

I have some Hungarian friends who moved to New York recently, and they have kept peppering me with questions about 'how do Americans really live'. Many months ago, I directed them to the 'Normal Room' site. Their curiosity was instantly sated, and they felt they got to know a lot about Americans that way. Such a cool site. And it gives the most interesting insights into how people - real people - actually live. I've found there definitely are cultural differences, which are very cool to try to figure out.
(But please, don't merge with them!)

Assuming I'm thinking of the same place, Fremantle is spelled with only 2 "e"s.
What a beautiful outdoor room though... a lovely place to relax by yourself or with friends in the long summer evenings.

This is funny!
I actually discovered the existence of Apartment Therapy a few months ago, by reading comments on Normal Room!
