That last shot IS GREAT!

That last shot is great, but I'd like to point out that Besta Burs has existed as a wall-mount unit for two years now; only the desk is new.

So exciting!

oh my god that mirror in #5!!! I really want that mirror. I actually want an antique mirror like that but they're hard to come by (for less than $500).

The bookcase I'm considering buying (Linnarp with doors) doesn't show up in the catalog. Discontinued? Does anyone know when the stores switch over to the new lines, and what they do with discontinued products? I'd hate to miss it entirely, though I'd rather buy one used off craigslist.

I love it! I would love that skinny desk if it came in white... basically an ikea parsons desk :-D

And Caiti, we didn't forget about those posts, some of us do not agree with them..... :-)

"New Lower Prices, Same Great Quality"

hmm... just like Wal-Mart...

Ever wonder how they pull it off?

AHH, the hypocrisy! A web site that touts living sustainably yet freaks out with joy over IKEA.

SHOP SECOND HAND.

I am sadly planted here in the Ikea-less Midwest. I usually get the catalog by mail but this year their site seems to be saying they are only posting online or putting the catalogs in the stores. Anyone know if they are still mailing them? If not, anyone want to grab a copy for me? I'd be happy to send a prepaid mailing label...

Oh please. This is a website that also "freaks out with joy" over exotic wood floors and $200 garage door tarps.

Also, as I and numerous others have pointed out, good-looking, quality second hand isn't always affordable or available to the masses.

I saw that orange and hot pink rug in the store yesterday & loved the intensity and vibrance of the colors. There is a lot of stuff on sale right now because of the new inventory coming in, it's definitely worth taking a look. Big discounts on the PAX wardrobes and components, so if you've been wanting to get that, don't wait! Some of the Malm bdrm stuff is on clearance too. The dressing table is marked down to 39.99 from 179.00. So glad they finally put the catalog online.

"we" Caiti, we?

Do you have a mouse in your pocket? Who is this WE that you speak for?

As for myself, nothing to forget. I buy what I want. You should try that sometime. You know, speak strictly for yourself, buy what you want, and mind YOUR own business. Just sayin'.

As for Linnarp, Liana--it doesn't have a lot of pieces in its range, which is likely why it's not in the catalog. Check their website.

The new catalog doesn't launch in paper until early August (I believe it's the first or second Saturday).

The information/photos in the US catalog are virtually the same, but the prices are difference.

They threw the catalog on the front lawns of my neighborhood a week or two ago. Seriously. Usually we get it in the mail. They were wrapped in plastic laying next to the mailboxes. Now pieces of ignored catalogs are sticking to the streets.

I'm going to have to echo the sentiment that the last photo is great; it's such a departure for a IKEA.

Has anyone seen the IKEA Stockholm sofa? I think it's new. I'm dying to know what everyone things about it. It's pricey for an IKEA sofa, otherwise it would already be mine.

anyway, i have three billy bookcases - and i think it's pretty cool that they're going to be in blue.

My boyfriend and I were at Ikea about a week ago. I saw that lamp, looked at it, and actually figured AT readers would love it since it resembles something rather Mid-century. But we decided that it's pretty ridiculously ugly. Sorry!

editrix26, I have the Stockholm sofa - I got it in the as-is section for half off a couple of months ago. I am very happy with my purchase, but I wouldn't have paid full price for it. You should check it out.

'buy used' is getting so annoying. try living somewhere where there's not a lot of quality used anything to buy.

to each their own, you're not better than anyone else, so keep it to yourself. if anything, teach by example, but keep your preaching to yourself.

unfortunately there's no ikea here either, although i do buy toothpaste at Walmart...*gasp* oh no! how could i?

any post on ikea and it's the same crying and complaining. ikea has some nice things, deal with it.

ikea finally came out with a "walnut" finish for their lack/expedit! i've been wondering when they would do that... been wanting something lighter than the black/brown but not birch!

edittrix26- i dont have the stockholm but have heard goodthings about it and i sit on the leather one every time i go to ikea. its deep and comfortable. the leather seat cushions are on the thin side but they still feel good. i've been debating a leather sofa (i have a messy toddler) so when i went i scratched the sofa to test it and it didnt show, the leather seems to be thick and durable. i want it!

I think the Alve secretary desk may have almost ruined ikea for me. It was such a bullshit, rickety, cheaply made POS that it was not only constantly threatening to colapse, but also to pull a large chunk of my wall with it and I had to give the thing away free 6 months after spending $600 on it.

Hasn't totally ruined ikea for me. I was still happy to see the new catalog.

Ok, so apparantly buying ikea is terrible, those of us who do are going to destroy the earth and instead we should all buy secondhand.

Questions:
1. What if you buy ikea secondhand, are you still responsible for destroying mankind?

2. How do you buy secondhand goods if nobody buys them it in the first place?

It's the chicken & the egg argument all over again.

A lot of my furniture is IKEA stuff that I bought second-hand from Craigslist. It can live on after the first owner tires of it, and really, what [attractive] furniture that you can get for less than a few thousand dollars isn't "unsustainable" and "uncrafted" nowadays?

The new catalog does seem a bit busy in places, but I love that skinny desk.

I am all for eco-friendly and buying "good for the earth" products, and I do so as much as possible. Personally though I am not into antiques and hate old furniture.

I did see this amazing organic linen couch I really would like to have but I couldn't find in my bank account a free $5,000 to pay for it.
