Thrift Mecca at 23rd and 3rd

2005_1_5_thrift.gifThis just in.... Since end of the year thriftyness is on our minds, we thought we'd post this shout out from Tina which reinforces the fact that thrift stores in this city have really picked up in the last few years and are not just for white haired old ladies. (Thanks, Tina!) MGR

"The intersection of 23rd Street and Third Avenue is a thrift/vintage mecca.

There are two thrift stores just west of City Opera on 23rd, Housing Works on 23 between 3rd and Lex, and the awesome (furniture/book wise) vintage store on 3rd btween 22 and 23. [WHAT IS THE NAME OF THIS ONE??]

I live nearby, so frequently make the rounds - - - and have found treasures at each of these stores." Tina

I think the name of this place is Vintage. It is next to a Janovic. Keeps strange hours . . .closed on Saturday, as I remember.

They are great for glassware. I love looking for glasses there that have one of my initals on it.

Yup - you got it. We are The Vintage Thrift Shop at 286 Third Avenue between 22nd and 23rd streets. We are open 10,30-8 monday to thursday 10,30 to sundown on friday and 11-7 on sunday. We benefit united jewish charities of the lower east side and to celebrate our 5 year anniversary we will be having an unprecedented jewelry event called Treasure Chest on June 15th from 6-9 pm. The best of the best will be for sale in the midst of a celebrity studded wine and cheezer so if you like big sparkly jewels you better get down here!
