TinyURL.com

5_13_tiny url.jpgDept. of Tiny. We should have known about this last month. Posted by Ali yesterday, TinyURL.com is a great resource for onliners if you are trying to post unwieldy URLs in comments or anywhere else (remember for our comments to just take the colons ":" out).

You copy the long URL you want to use and put it in a box at TinyURL.com and it will spit out a tiny url that works as a clone. You can also add it to your browser toolbar so it is right at hand. (Thanks, Ali!) MGR

Tiny has a downside when (mis)used on blogs. Malicious folks leaving comments have been known to use tiny to direct traffic to sites with offensive content. I've seen a few blogs that block tiny for that reason.

And unfortunately, at some unspecified point TinyURLs expire, making blog archives and old forum posts next to useless.
