9-11-carpenter.jpgWe found this flyer taped to a mailbox on Friday and plucked it:

"Small Jobs Done Beautifully / Perfect Home Improvements / John"

We've since spoken to him he has a remarkable background. Having worked in fine carpentry for 35 years, he now takes on all sorts of quality projects, from furniture repair to fine finish carpentry and cabinetwork. With a small shop in downtown Manhattan, folks are invited to come by and see what he is doing. There is no mystery here.

We invite readers to try John out and get back to us. He's now been added to the Stores Guide on the right.

I love fine woodwork and am a fan of shops like Thomas Moser and Stickley. When I needed some bookcases I decided to order custom made ones, and I was thrilled with John's workmanship, artistry and attention to detail. Several friends and neighbors asked me for his phone number after seeing my bookshelves. Worth every penny, you can't (and I didn't) find anything like this in the stores.

John did a couple of projects for me including some custom woodwork , it wasn’t cheap, but he did timely work and he had great ideas and input for the design, I was pleased with the outcome and enjoy the improvements to my apartment.

John Ewbank designed and built a countertop and shelf for me, turning my impossibly cramped eat-in kitchen into a cook's dream space! He was very easy to work with and came up with a smart solution that fit my unique needs. He also gave me unbeatable price for high quality. The job was done very efficiently and the results are sturdy and attractive. I definitely recommend this one-of-a kind, handy man carpenter!

This is a fastidious resourceful honest man. You can rely on him completely. I first employed him was to build a wall of bookcases in my loft. I was out of town for a week, returned to find the job done perfectly and the place spotless -- NO SAWDUST. Since then I have used him several times and reccommended him to many friends who are all happy with his work.
