Musa Sangare: Carpenter & Handyman

New York, NY

Handyman Pic.jpgCan do anything. We came across Musa Sangare a few years ago through a contractor who recommended him for small jobs.

Musa is a generalist. He can do plumbing, plastering, electrical work and light carpentry. "I can do anything." he will tell you. While we would reserve the fine finish work for someone else, Musa is a great resource for the rough stuff.

Musa doesn't work by the hour, but by the job. He will give you a price on each job when he sees it, and will visit ahead of time for this purpose. MGR

What type of jobs has he done for you, and what did he charge you?

Musa is great! He just did a job for me, creating a room by building two walls (using drywall). He arrived early, stayed late, and the work was stellar. Not cheap, but certainly fairly priced and very well done. I cannot recommend him enough.

I had Moussa help me out with a bunch of odds and ends (hanging a heavy mirror, installing a hanging pot rack, fixing some table legs, etc) in my new place recently. He was pleasant and very hard working. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete something (needed to get paint, etc.) and agreed to come back a few days later. When I called him to confirm, he said he couldn't make it. We made an appointment for a week later and he never showed up. I've left him 2 messages and still no news.

An update -- Moussa returned this week to finish the work he started at my place. He had a personal emergency and thus didn't work or return calls for several weeks.

Musa was wonderful - my job was pretty simple (hanging a metal CD shelf) but he was quick and seemed to know exactly what he was doing! And since it was such a small job, he told me to pay him what I thought his time was worth...

Musa rocks! We've had endless nightmare experiences with "handymen" and Musa came over and got the job done right the first time. He improvised when we didn't have exactly what was needed and totally knew what he was doing. I won't let him go!

musa just did some electrical work for me. i moved to a new apt and wanted to replace the existing ceiling lights with track lighting. musa came by on a weds night, gave me an estimate and then returned fri evening to do the job. he also replaced a tiny light i had in my bathroom with vanity lighting. musa was great. he was reasonably priced, incredibly professional, did a great job and was very pleasant to work with. i would highly recommend him for projects. i plan on calling him again in a few weeks to have curtain rods installed.

Musa was great, turned up when he said he would, preformed the work (hidding cable wiring, fixing the diswasher door and repairing a large ceiling hole caused by a leak in the roof) and charged a reasonable rate. Even better all this was done with a grin. Would highly recommend.

I had some problems with Musa, although he is a very sweet guy. His abilities with electrics is not up to snuff.

However, I found a really GREAT handyman. His name is Alan Holstein. He is fast, courteous, smart and prompt. In fact, he showed up to my place early. I cannot recommend him enough. His email is alanholst@aol.com and his # is 212-957-8345.

Musa came to look at the shelving system job, told me he would get me a quote, then I never heard from him again. That didn't break my heart, as he told me that he would be cutting all the shelving in the apt! That is insane. It is one thing to have to do some final fitting of the shelving, but to cut all the shelving in the apt would make an enormous mess. I do not think he has a shop to work in and that doesn't bode well for a carpenter. I would not recommend.
