Old barn. Moooo! We found Tony Garcia and Barntiques a number of years ago at the Chelsea Flea Market, where he continues to sell his barn wood tables. He has become a great resource for us!
Handmade and hand waxed, Tony will make you anything you want out of reclaimed barn wood. He specializes in farm tables and heavy wood pieces that resemble a cross between the Shaker and Arts & Crafts styles, and advertises tables, beds, cabinets, dressers and bookcases. We have bought tables and cabinets from him, and had him custom build an media unit to fit into a small apartment. His workshop is in Pennsylvania, and he comes in each week to deliver furniture and sell his wares at the Chelsea Flea Market (Sat & Sun). You can check him out in person here.
Prices are reasonable, and depend on the amount of detail in a piece. Small hall tables go for $175 and bigger tables go for $150 a foot ($1,000 for an 8 foot dining table). For custom pieces, Tony is very straightforward and will tell you the price on the phone after seeing a picture or fax of what you want. MGR

Barntique's work reminds me of a dining table that I've seen on a trip to Vancouver BC, but don't the know the source of. Perhaps someone can help me: It's a huge rectangular wooden table, using reclaimed board and beams that are perfectly squared up so that it has the raw power of the wood but very modern clean lines. At each of the corner is an 8x8 piece of beam rising from the floor all the way up to the top of the table, so that you can the end is exposed at the corner of the table top, and you can see the growth rings. The rest of the table top is made up of probably barn boards.
It's a very powerful table and I'd love to know the source for it.

probably not exactly what you are describing, but it made me think of the Big Sur table at Crate and Barrel:

I am also a huge fan of Tony's. I just buy individual pieces here and there but everything is top notch quality and Tony has really gone out of his way to deliver the pieces to me. I love his stuff!
