As far as we are aware, this store is now closed.

Madeleine Guedj, the owner of La Cafetiere, will tell you that color is good and mixing colors is even better. Having opened her Chelsea store in 1999, she has since made a mark in her increasingly upscale neighborhood with her casual, brightly colored furniture, dinnerware and accessories that shout out, "Be playful! Express yourself!"

Importing all of her wares from France, Italy and Belgium, Guedj specializes in linen and cotton textiles as well as summer candy colored place settings that you can (and she will almost insist) order one by one, as opposed to by the set. The reason? It is more fun to have forks, knives and spoons of different colors and textures. They go together so well, that you don't need to worry about stylistic mishaps. Everything in La Cafetiere works together.

Underneath the beautiful blankets and throws you will also find furniture to match, and we particularly liked the glassware by Henry Dean. If you are looking to brighten up a beach house or bring South of France style into your dark apartment, drop by and say "Bonjour."

Um, La Cafetiere closed a while back. It is now run by the same folks but is called Cote Table I think and everything is white, grey and beige.

Good call, zaky... none of these things are in the new store. The original owner moved out of the country last year.

Is this an AT recycled post from days gone by?

Thanks for the heads up. We were confused because the website was still up and running and looked very current. I've updated the post now. Thanks!
