Gus* is the Toronto-based furniture company making a name for itself in the States after years of working through US distributors from its Canadian base camp. This carefully-edited collection is not as flashy as its typical ICFF neighbors, but the pieces are solid with cool, clean designs perfectly scaled to NYC apartment living...

Gus* NY is the first stand-alone Gus* showroom in the USA, though they have a number of "Gus* Studio" store-in-stores at various retailers across the country.

Gus* carries handsome furniture staples with a streamlined but earthy modernism -- designs mostly created under the eye of David Podsiadlo, their in-house industrial designer.

Sofas run $1895-$2895. The turn-around time on custom pieces squarely beats industry average at closer to 3 to 4 weeks than the typical 8 to 12 weeks. Some pieces from their Essentials Collection are ready to ship in 7 to 10 days. They also sell a fresh alternative to the ubiquitous Eames chair: the Thompson chair, priced at the decidedly non-Eames $245.

They also carry non-Gus* lamps and chairs from Kartell, Area bedding, Zack stainless accessories and the work of artist Richard Des Jardins.

Ooh, I love those pieces! Especially that brown sofa. I'd snap almost all of them up if I could.

i own a gus sofa and the quality is wonderful. the cushions are partially downfilled. if you remove the back cushion it basically turns into a single day bed.. super handy since i don't have a guest room.

Although the company was founded in Toronto, Gus* just opened its first T.O. location this month: http://stylenorth.ca/blog/2008/11/a-shop-of-its-own-gus-goes-retail/

I a a big fan of Gus owing to their clean design and realistic pricing. Minor point, The Thompson chair is more in the style of Thonet than Eames.

I had a GUS sofa, but found the quality very poor for the price-They are based in Toronto-but the goods are all made in CHINA.
They have had a store for many years in Toronto called Style Garage.

Great - More crapola imported from China...

How about some great resources for US/Canadian made goods and furnishings - Like Bendtsen furniture from retailers other than DWR?

Have to echo the quality question. We carried this line for a bit and the basic quality is low for upholstered pieces, other things, are nice, wood pieces tend to be veneers over MDF, not exactly long term quality. Fabrics are only so so. Thin. Not great quality ... we stopped carrying it.

The Owner of the GUS store in New York, who also has a store in florida-was very helpful-when we returned our GUS sofa, he did recommend a few lines that are actually made in the US and Canada that he carried in his Florida store(not under the GUS name) They were G.Romano(montreal) what we ended up with sofa-wise and are very happy with, Mitchell Gold(a little too transitional)Vanguard and Baronet for Bedroom

bepsf, check your facts before any more of your whining, pissing and moaning. It gets old.
