Close-Up: Colored Kitchen Cabinets
New York

For some the kitchen is sacred in its purity of color and materiality. But for others, it is another opportunity for whimsy and fun. Here are a few examples of people who weren't afraid to use their cabinets as a canvas.

Sher and Ritch exposed the contents of their cabinets and then painted the backdrop orange--two bold moves that paid off nicely!

Speaking of bold, painting all your cabinets purple might have to go to the top of the list!

David couldn't afford to replace his whole kitchen, so he painted the cabinet doors with a primer and then a couple of coats of striking orange paint. In addition to saving money, he saved another bunch of MDF from a landfill destiny.

Mat's New York City location didn't stop him from aiming for the decor of a wayfarer. Here, his exposed cabinets are measurably enriched by some baby blue.

I couldn't do the all-open thing (too mesy) but i love the pop of color above the sink, esp in such a classic kitchen.

I've done this in a few places! i lived in this apartment that had horrible brown pressboard cabinet doors that made the kitchen feel like a cave. i took off the doors and painted the insides blue. (I left two by the stove with the doors on to hide some messy elements)
it made me keep my cabinets that were exposed all organized. everyone that came into my kitchen was surprised and loved it!!

I'm dying to redo my kitchen again - I'm thinking that Red/Orange cabinets may be the answer...

I think its a great way to use some of your more eye appealing dishes and glassware on display....but I sure couldn't do them all that way. My Tupperware cabinet with all those darn lids would have to be closed up...lol.

Adding a big color to your cabinets takes guts since it's usually the most prominent element in the kitchen. You are to be commended! I found a way to add some color to my kitchen without making too much of a commitment. It may work for other people that like bold colors but are a bit unsure as to how to pull it off.
