Nova Zembla used to have two stores (one modern, one traditional); now they just have one store in Cobble Hill and a warehouse in Red Hook. All of their wood furniture is made in Jaipur, India, where Nova Zembla has a relationship with a family-run manufacturer, Bob Exports, who exclusively make their designs. We like Nova -- it's a style conscious store, but with non-SoHo prices.
As their website says: Nova Zembla offers a full line of home furnishings and accessories. We specialize in our own exclusive line of eco-friendly hardwood furniture, and work closely with individual customers to create custom-designed pieces. Nova Zembla also features custom upholstery by Cisco Brothers, lamps by Slip, hand-knotted Kashmiri rugs, antique tin mirrors, mantles and coat racks, and a large, eclectic assortment of home accessories and gifts.

I know it and love some of their stuff, but I, too, am priced out of most of their pieces.
Their sofas are comfortable-- or at least the one i sat on a few months ago was-- but I didn't pay much attention to the seams or anything.

I bought a Cisco Brothers sofa (actually a loveseat) from them a few years ago. Very high quality. However, I didn't have a very good experience ordering through Nova Zembla. Delay after delay after delay. They sent me a temporary one to use that was horrible. Good sofa - poor service.

They're currently having a 20% off everything in the store sale. We bought a large custom solid rosewood piece over the summer (great value for the quality) and returned to find a complimentary piece. When we found the sale, we threw in a sofa at over 50% off the original price. When ordering custom pieces, it takes longer to recieve the product, naturally, but the stock sale and the quality are instantly awesome!!

Really good store--somewhat of a lamp paradise. they carry two designers for the most part but you can mix and match bases and shades. friendly salesperson had no problem changing configurations for me multiple times. currently running a 'stimulus sale' too...
