December 4, 2005 - On a drive up to Hamilton, New York

Driving through the snow the colors on these upstate homes were totally diverse and sometimes downright kooky. Yellow and green was a popular combination. We like the soft green the best. People who live in apartments never get to do this sort of thing.

This is a very pretty little bouquet of color, and very nicely presented. I think that first house must have been in the middle of its paint-job, because that's a very bizarre little color scheme. And if I'm right, then this picture of it is probably a rare one.
Also, the white of the snow REALLY helps make those colors show up very well!
Curtis, I'll bet the middle-of-the-paint job has been like that for years. Those paint colors were probably on sale or free.
I like that the green-and-yellow house also has a smiling gutter...
In Cairo, people paint the outside of their apartments... It's a little odd, because one chunk of a building will be peachy pink and surrounded by dingy polluted grey. You can kinda see it here:

I love colourfully-painted houses! Reminds me of Newfoundland (scroll down to the middle of the page).
These pictures are stunning! They remind me of all of the crazy, eccentric colorful people that formed the little town I grew up in (Lexington, MA).
What strikes me is that, as insane and ramshackle as the exteriors are, there is nothing scary about them...I imagine that in each kitchen a warm pot of coffee is brewing, someone is knitting by the fire and a wicked heated game of monopoly is being played upstairs.
You east coasters dont know how good youve got it. Snow is god's confetti-
How's Hamilton these days? I spent four years of my life there at Colgate University. What were you folks in town for? I love that little village!!
Holy crud, I'm from around Hamilton, and it's very eery to see familiarly garish houses on this swanky site. That pink house has been like that forever. And last time I knew, that blue and cream one at the bottom was for sale. There are a lot of houses with similar paint jobs up there. I always figured it was because people were a little poor and just bought what was on sale to protect the wood before winter. What's a little freaky are the trailers painted in pastel greens and pinks and blues, just like in the 50's.
I live up there and no joke you'll find bright pink houses if you know where to look. And I think the first one's in the middle of a paint job only because the front is still white. I know I would do soemthing crazy like that.
