ColorTherapy: A Screen Lattice

Name: Railings 31, Shaded White 201
Brand: Farrow & Ball

Alas, my Haus tour of the past few weeks must come to a close. This is the last wall in this decorative paint project. It’s also my quiet favorite of the bunch — even if it is perhaps the least dynamic photograph out of the quartet, and the least “colorful.”

For purposes of this column, let’s start with color. This looks pretty black and white, doesn’t it? But you’d know if we had the wrong color — it would stick out like a sore thumb. Here we have Railings over Shaded White. Once again, we’re going dark and cool over warm and light in perfect measure. Railings is a delightful off-black that looks blue to me, though Farrow & Ball files it under “bronze.”

As for the pattern, it’s this mesmerizing geometric thing that’s part op-art, part motif, a little bit 70s retro and a little bit je ne sais quoi that I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s like a screen you could almost put your hand through, the wall sucks you in and relaxes you; and for those who thought last week’s Zigzag bedroom was too active, this is my rejoinder.

But you had to be there: favorite wall, least favorite picture. And to Nina at Haus, I bow at your lotus feet.

I love the black and white feel. It looks busy, but works perfectly.

Very David Hicks! love it. I also love the idea of putting these focal walls behind the beds-- it adds interest and texture to the rooms, but it's less distracting (if you're easily distracted).

this gives me a marvelous idea: paint a moroccan key pattern on the wall. it could even be done tone on tone so it's subtle!

Great idea Lady J! With painter tape and good measurements, it would be a wonderful looking wall in any blend of colors or lack of color.

This room is one of my favorite since I'm so fond of black and white.

I'm strongly considering doing a pattern like this on my bedroom wall it's just the 'headboard' accent that I need. Not to busy, not SO complicated, LOVE it.
