apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

ColorTherapy: House Proud at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum

I have a “pretty pictures” post this week, whilst a run around the globe in search of peace of mind, and the next big thing. Meanwhile, why don’t you pop into the Cooper-Hewitt for a little inspiration?

House Proud: Nineteenth-Century Watercolor Interiors from the Thaw Collection features illustrations of European interiors and documents the development of domestic life and aesthetics from the 1800s. You may see for yourself how thoroughly a room was planned from the chandelier down to the carpet tacks. The drawings are detailed and delicate and if I may loosely quote the New York Times, this is the origin of our current obsession with shelter porn.

There is also an awesome exhibition of children's wallpaper and pop-up books at the Cooper-Hewitt. I was very inspired. And they are offering pay-what-you-wish admission on Sundays until Jan 25th.
