apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

ColorTherapy: Lattice Red IB57

10-10-colortherapy.jpg

Name: Lattice Red IB57
Brand: Ralph Lauren

Here I have a client who was born in Iran, who wanted to paint her whole apartment red. I understood what she was after, but I had to give her permission to go wild in a way because everyone she knew tried to talk her out of it. And indeed, we started out off-white. Ugh.

For me, the key to opening her imagination lay in the small chest of drawers pictured here. Its just a rare, wonderful little thing with a color that could be expanded across the whole room. Lattice Red feels like a true red to me, with notes of Vermillion.

Every room in this apartment is a different color of red, and as you move through the apartment you feel as if youre moving through a series of Persian tapestries, with contemporary influences. Better than off-white, isnt it?

i came thisclose to choosing this color for my bathroom! it was this and Behr's Awning Red, and I ended up going with the latter. they looked almost identical, to tell you the truth, and i only picked the Behr because i've had more experience with it and felt more confident that i knew what it would do.

Talk about the opposite of the latest posted color contest entry!

(And I love both!)

i was just going to ask about the cabinet. it's very pretty. is it from iran?

it's intersting how the wall is pink at left edge and red at the right edge. i'm not a fan of red but it's an interesting effect.

I hate it when people try to discourage you from trying something new/funky...

The red works well in the picture, it's a great shade of red, cozy, nice but not overpowering. The chest of drawers is also a nice piece and definately ties the look together.

And besides, even if the client changes her mind later, IT'S ONLY PAINT!!! You can change it in an afternoon...

Don't be afraid to play with colours! :)

Oh wow. I bet the client loves this space. Once again, the picture above the fold leaves me wanting more!

That's a great use of color! I'd love to see more of the space, too.

At first I thought I was still in the Annual Fall colors contest page. This room would definitely get my vote for number one!

Not my style but I love this pic. It's daring, bold, and yet warm and cozy. Ummmm... shouldn't this be in the Fall Colors Contest?!

I went to the Apartment Therapy site early thing this morning, first-cup-of-coffee-of-the-day in hand, and lo, and behold, if it wasn't that gorgeous red image that woke me up and brightened my day! I'm an architect who loves white, but am not immune to the glories of overwhelming color. Bravo!

One of my warm color combinations is Red, Fusciapink and orange. With dashes of green ( i still have to arrive which hue i have to apply.

Since I have to satisfy myself with all the colors I will have to paint one wall each of the 3 colors above and the door with the green. And I am very sure my husband will be speechless after this

This is incredibly beautiful. I love monochrome and am learning that any color can become a neutral. Reds and pinks are just so serene and sensual. There was an issue of Oprah's home magazine that featured Melodie Beattie's home, and it was all red and pink, it made me swoon.

And if you love this, you must see Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz's all red dining room at the www.methome.com Design 25 gallery (September 2004).

I also would love to see more of this home. Please post more! And if you enter the color contest, I will definitely vote for it as a finalist!

Good work and thanks for sharing!

The red on the walls detracts from that wonderful red dresser. I didn't even notice it at first until I read the caption.

I love this because it is bold and done for the person who lives there, as opposed to following a trend.

The wall color is wonderful, as is everything else I see. I thought we should see another photo. I'm sure the rest is as welcoming and sensuous. Sensuous rooms have such a great impact on life.

Rasil: The difference in the wall color is the lighting in the room and the light coming from the left through a window. One could easily do this with paint effect however using tints and glazes (or waxes)

I love the oink couch with the red wall. Fab!

Oops! I meant Pink - not oink!

Okay, now I'm picturing an oink couch. I think I'd like it.

Sorry, but I think that wall color and that sofa color and the chest color all really clash.

Maybe it's my monitor.

Maybe in the context of the rest of the house, where every variation is used, it works.

But this isn't doing it for me so much.
