I dont think theres anything more romantic than an artists workspace, and I know I feel like St. Jerome in his study when I sit in mine. This color runs slightly gray, and you can see that theres a neutral white work wall to the right of it, but a little blue behind the bookshelves makes the clutter go away. Benjamin Moore 1565.

Why dont you tint the room and bleach the furniture? This is a reversal of what many people would dokeep the walls safely pale and put color in the furnishings. Here the unifying element is the all-white furniture, which stands out against the saturated wall color in sharp relief. Benjamin Moore 2053-40.
