ColorTherapy: Underwater Blue

Name: G20740
Brand: Fine Paints of Europe

This is some of the smartest color design I’ve seen in some time, and I’ll say that because I can’t completely take credit for it, there were so many people involved. You’ve seen the same thing so many times—pale walls and dark furniture. Here, it’s the room that’s super-saturated and the furniture that’s bleached white…

I snapped this photo post-construction, but you get the idea. The walls are Ralph Lauren Indian Rhubarb NA63 (my new favorite gray), the floors are Jacobean, the ceiling is bright white so you don’t feel like you’re in a cave, and the off-white baseboard breaks things up just so. But the pièce de résistance is this dark, underwater blue from Fine Paints of Europe.

I often recommend deep, underwater colors like this for bathrooms as an alternate to periwinkle. What’s unusual about this color is how much I like it in the main room; and how rich, dark and sensual it is--I thought I’d float away every time I saw it. It’s so dark, the only thing that makes sense is to take the color out of the furniture altogether and shop white. Genius!

Some might think dark colors are antiquated or musty, but I think this proves that they can be very contemporary as well. Forgive the blurry photos, I was standing on one leg. Chairs by Philippe Starck.

I still love IKEA's Kulla floorlamp! This paint color is a keeper too...a more sophisticated version of "peacock blue." Thanks Mark.

That's a great color. I've been trying to figure out what color to paint my front door and this may be the one. My walls are a grey/blue and the trim is white. I really like the idea of this deep deep blue.

I just painted my Bathroom ' Deep Space' (Benjamin Moore). Initially we were concerned that it may be too dark. But with all the sparkly white tiles and fixtures, it looks really great!

This deep colour would make for an excellent accent wall in a bathroom, against shimmery pieces, watery glass tiles, mirrors and a chandelier.

Hmmmmm... Time for a bathroom project!

I second aaron... That fllor lamp just catches you. It's the first thing I noticed. It never looks cheap, no matter what setting it's in. I'm sure that that great underwater blue helps bring it out tho.

P.S. I have that same cheapy table from U.O. I never leave it out when company comes by. LOL. But I guess if they can, so can I.

I am so smitten with this color! I cannot imagine any other color I'd more want to coat the walls of my bedroom! Trouble is... I don't really know how to go about acquiring it? The Fine Paints of Europe website is a bit tedious to navigate and there isn't a carrying store nearby me. Does anyone know which color collection this color is from so I can order a sample pot? Does anyone know of any comparable colors from other easier-to-find dealers? I really doubt anyone can match the luminosity of this color, but perhaps the tint...? Please help!
