apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

ColorTherapy: Zig Zag Volume 2

Name: London Clay 244, Railings 31, Hardwick White 5, Mahogany 36 over Shaded White 201
Brand: Farrow & Ball

This week, I’m taking last week’s zig zag idea one step further, varying the line in size, color and rhythm. Think of this as a flame stitch pattern writ large.

The trick was to get this to look Italian in the 70s instead of like a big poncho. Colors, same as last week, were a bevy of Farrow & Ball brown and beige, with a cool Hardwick White offsetting the warm tones.

Although I made and followed a small sketch strike-off, I basically attacked the wall with a pencil to get the thrust of it — establishing vertical cross points and adding stripes as I went along.

The result — dare I say it — is surprisingly tame and livable. Although it’s behind a bed I wouldn’t think it would keep me up at night — chartreuse and apricot would be another story. No cheesy process shots this week! I’ll close with a wider angle establishing shot, and another nod to Nina at Haus Interior.

i like the livlieness and energy in neutrals. they balance each other well imo. i want those lamps. a less refined version would probably be very DIYable...

Seems that all artistically inclined twenty-somethings need to go overboard on pattern and color in their youth, before they can appreciate subtle effects.

So, I won't decry this as too heavy-handed and aggressive. It's a lesson that must be learned independently or not at all.

I like this a lot. Probably not in a bedroom though...

looks good on the wall behind you, when you're in bed.

I would like to see a post on what people do with all their excess bed pillows that are purely decorative. Throw them on the floor every night? Or do they have a basket or storage box? I'd actually be interested in knowing! I keep thinking about it each time I see a bed with more than four pillows on it (which, like having three cats, still seems a manageable number even if I don't personally subscribe to it.)

home body, same here :-D with some pictures i get a serious case of pillow fright.

the wall is ... not for me. i think it kills the rest of the room, but then i am not fond of loud wall treatments as a whole, and if it works for you, enjoy it!

Yikes. Reminds me too much of a stock chart which is quite anxiety-ridden these days.

Love it-- If it were mine, I'd probably paint the other walls one of these colors and retain the white for trim.

What's wonderful is that it's well-executed and not a bit craftsy-waftsy.

I really like this, I think it would go compliment a room with Dalek's art hanging on the other walls. www.dalekart.com
