Why MY bedroom is MOSTLY beautiful:
I think it's beautiful because I've finally accepted that I'm a gypsy at heart, and as soon as I finalize an idea, I change everything again.
So this bedroom temporarily combines all I love for coziness. A great bed with down pillows and comforter, a cozy fire, and a place to read by it. Any claims to neatness are mocked by piles of books, which are generally everywhere, in transit to someplace else, as are art supplies, furniture, etc.. In fact, the plants are visiting, because I'm repainting the kitchen, which is their home. It's a nice surprise to see them in the morning!
TIPS
1. Never get so married to a decorating change that you're stuck with it. Your imagination is always generating new ideas, so click on "Refresh" from time to time.
2. Keep yourself surrounded by things you love and you'll have happy rooms.
3. If something bothers you about the way your room looks, fix it. It won't stop bothering you until you do!

I really like what I see. Only I don't think I see a bed...
I love it, but also wonder where the bed is...
A bedroom with a fireplace... What a dream. Just need someone to light it in the morning... So much nicer to wake to that instead of perky newspeople.
Yeah... coffee and a fire... shoes getting warmed by the heat as you start your day... I'd get up two hours earlier.
Can a submission without a bed even be considered?
I gave this a super cool because it seemed to really marry comfort and personality with a sense of thoughtfulness. I decided to overlook the whole "where the hell is the bed" thing.
If this were a contest for "Most Beautiful Architecture", you'd get my vote, hands down. Your mouldings are spectacular! Looking around my gut-renovated tenement, I'm jealous. I want crown!
I also voted Super Cool even without a bed and the hard to see pictures. I really like the Tips. Even though there is a lot of stuff there, it doesn't seem cluttered, rather lived in, and it doesn't seem "styled" but comfortable. I could do without the skirted table, but otherwise it does seem beautiful, cozy, comfortable, and nice. Although, I may be just be beguiled by the fire and losing my senses!
Ah yes, the bed. In my zeal, I forgot to send that picture! I just now sent it inmaybe it will get posted. It's [presently!] tucked under a window so I can look up at the sky. Sorry the pictures are so dark. I hate flash pictures, and these were all taken very, very early on several mornings....
Whoever voted "Weird", I agree! (To me, it's totally lovably weird.)

Ah, there IS a bed. I was just trying to picture those rubber sheets on the floor, close to the fire. Not too close!!! ;)
Brilliant, Patrick (The Other One)! As a matter of fact, the rubber sheets would be a knockout next to the black marble fireplace surround. Cursesnow I'll have to buy some.....
[Oh, PS to my bedroom pics. The top layer of fabric on the skirted table is a WWII supplies parachute. With all its tucks and banding, it looks positively Victorian. I'm sorry I'm such a lousy photographer that my pictures are blurry as well as dark. Sigh.)
Aulaire-
I really like your place- is it a one bedroom or a studio? I live in a studio that looks v. similar in size and shape, but mine being a rent stab. walk-up is not in as good of condition with regards to floor and molding condition. I have the fireplace- white marble mantle though...
Do you mind me asking size? if you rent or own?
I am re-signing my lease on my apartment and committing for one more year- I think I am going to finally paint as well...
Thanks for the inspiration!
Very nice...can't wait to see the bed!!
Love it - love it - love it
My favorite so far, even without a shot of the bed! This room has warmth and character, like the home base of a world traveler. Sorry, waxing a bit poetic. But I really like it.
My favorite too. The room has great bones. Can't go wrong there. For some reason I'm starting to feel a bit weird seeing peoples bedrooms. It seams personal. Maybe because this room really looks like someone would live in it. And the lighting is so intimate.
I like the Greek Revival details. And it goes with the gypsy theme, having your bedroom on the parlor floor of what no doubt was once an elegant townhouse built in the 1840s. Like living in Greek ruins.
Love this room--all the objects seem full of meaning. Beautiful moldings, too.

What's that big piece of art displayed on the mantle?
Other Patrick
It's an old marble and copper electrical board from a stable I used to live in. It weighs I'd guess about 150 to 200 pounds. (Talk about not putting the head of your bed under things that might fall on you.)
I never knew Apartment Therapy existed till a few days ago. I love it. What a nice bunch of people you all are, and what fun! Thanks for the really nice observations, guys.
something about how the things were put together that i really loved. it's got great character and a refreshing departure from the 'designer' ethos that's beginning to form a rather dogmatic, 'stifling straitjacket'. fireplace is a sure winner. so does the round mirror, the columns, the bedside lamps.
Great bedroom.
Has style and personality. Reflect the eclectic taste, personality and lifestyle of the owner.
Can't get this from a book or a decorator.
Congrats!!!
Your room looks amazing! Love the architecture. The only thing I don't love (and maybe it's because I can't really see it) is the skirted table. However, I could see it looking really bohemian in the right setting with the right fabric--so maybe I just can't see that from the pic. I'm so envious of your space and your fireplace!
this is very nice and your brave to post a room so intimate. It's not my style but so what. It's warm and so cool. good for you.
i loved the room, it has such a warm glow and cosy feeling. you hit the nail on the head with your gypsy comment, that is so me and i never could put a name to it. surround yourself with what you love. im so tired of the stiff over decorated rooms we see so much of.
