Why MY bedroom is the MOST beautiful:
My bedroom is beautiful because it's simple and peaceful and calm and comfortable. It's contemporary without being cold. I made the upholstered headboard myself, and sewed/quilted most of the linens.
My own art and the art of my friends hangs on the wall. I can see upper Manhattan's skyline out the window from my bed, and I can also watch flocks of birds play in the huge tree right outside.
In the morning, I can see the sunrise reflecting off skyscrapers, in the daytime we get fantastic Northern exposure, and in the evening the lights are all dimmable. It's my personal haven.
LM's Tips:
1. Don't be afraid of bright color in the bedroom It can be done well
with proper lighting, and it invigorates you in the mornings.
2. Go all out with bedding. Make your bed as comfortable as possible. If you can't afford it, make it yourself.
3. Make it personal and distinct. Your bedroom is the room in your home where you spend the most time, so it should really reflect your personality and contain your favorite things.

How did you choose your wall color? It's unusual for a bedroom. Very energizing. I like it. Is it custom mixed, or does it have a name?
I have the same matchstick blinds, with curtains layered over them. I'd forgotten how organic and sculptural they can look on their own. Sometimes less really IS more...
Thank you Amy! It's Benjamin Moore's Tequila Lime, and my boyfriend and I picked it on a whim. Dangerous, I know. We knew we wanted a bright green, and we fell in love with it in the store.
Our last apartment was very very neutral and muted, and we wanted to take a chance when we moved into a new space last year.
And yes, I love the blinds too!
It looks very cozy. I nice haven away from a hectic world. I wish there were more pictures. I'd like to see the other side of the room.
this shot looks great, but i hestitate to vote since i have no idea what the whole room looks like! can we have more photos please?
Top 2 so far...
The colors are getting there... the straw mat definitely is a good touch... it's a very personally composed space. the use of color is really expressive.
What about pillows with a reduced amount of green on the bed?... blues and eggplant colors... or red... but a splash of green to tie it all back to the walls would be really super.
Thanks!
I love bright green and I like that this feels unique and personal and happy. This looks like the bedroom of someone I'd like to meet.
I don't care for the green at all. Also, the huge light over the bed is awful! I would hate to lay in bed reading a book - I'd be holding the book up to block out the light.
for the record, i have a similar light above my bed and it's great. the paper shade filters the light so there are gradients of light instead of lines from shades and such.
i also love lara's bedroom. but i love most colors with brown.
Not crazy about the green - I lived with a pumpkin-orange living room for awhile, and it was a bit too much. I would counter it with some bolder choices in the bedding color, but its hard to tell from the picture. The pendant above the bed seems a bit ominous and not too great to read by.
I agree with Paul on the pillows! That would really look nice. I do like the window covering and wall color. I can't really tell the color of the headboard you made- but I'm guessing it really pops against the green? I like the framed artwork you're displaying and how the one over the bed is not centered in the middle of the frame- much more interesting that way. Wish I could see the rest of your room!
Some more info, I know the shot isn't the best...
The headboard is chocolate (anchors the green), and some other small accents around the room are chocolate and aqua.
Oh, and the overhead lantern is soft and dimmable and never overwhelming, I promise. I can't stand harsh overheads either.
I may send in more photos of the rest of the room later when I'm not stuck at work!
Thanks again so much, everyone.
Love, love, love the green! This is my favorite room so far, at least what I can see of it. There is a truly personal feel and it's WARM.
Definitely post more pics! I'd also love to see a shot in true daylight so that the green and brown aren't muddled by the warm light from the overhead lantern.
love the color and hominess, but not the bed pushed up against the wall. feels a little cramped to me. also, hard to evaluate with so little room available for inspection.
What a great color! In the photo the position of the bed gives the whole thing a cocoon-like feel that's very nice, but it would really depend on what the rest of the room was like.
martha (no, not that martha)
This bedroom is simply amazing. You can see the personality of the designer coming through in the choices made, from the boldness of the walls, to the subtle and tasteful bedding. Everything ties together to create a comfortable yet artistic room. Mad props to LM!
This looks a lot like my bedroom. Therefore I love it! I love that it's unapologetically small and cozy, and the green is relaxing at bedtime and inspiring in the mornings. It's simple, without being slavishly devoted to the cult of simplicity. And it has nice homey touches without being cluttered.
My room has a tiny edge over this one, though, in that it also contains my dog Dobbs's bed, nestled between my side of the bed and the wall. If the owner of this room got a really great dog, it'd be a solid tie.
