Why MY bedroom is the MOST beautiful:
My bedroom is beautiful because there is tons of light, with a fantastic open sky, city view. There's a lot of fun & whimsy in there. It is spacious. In no way does it resemble a spa or hotel.
Tips
1. No TV or computer should be in the bedroom, ever!
2. Always make the bed (any room can look good if it's tidy)
3. There should always be one incongruous or unexpected item in the bedroom (as a conversation piece)

This bedroom is not to my taste, but I can see why it would be a pleasant place to sleep (note the cat), and I do like the contrast of the very bright turquoise and red against the pale frilly stuff.
It's not my style but it does look comfy and personal. I agree with her tips, too. TV or computer in the bedroom should be avoided if at all possible.
I think the extreme white walls make the space above the bed look kind of off. Especially with the bigger pictures hung directly over the tables - maybe if it was a little less symetric and a little more random.
Also, all those crooked lampshades would drive me crazy.
It looks comfortable, and "girly" (no offense intended), but not at all to my taste. I do like the bright red night table though. Perhaps some other color on the walls could pull it all together better. I don't think it is "most beautiful" except perhaps in the eyes of the owner, which of course is what really counts.
Again, not my style, but I could still say it was nice. However, at least from these pictures, it doesn't really seem beautiful or tied together, although it may be comfy. I do like the bed side table, though. Very unique!
as with everyone else, it isn't my style, but it does seem comfy. my one critique is that it seems a little cluttered -- the pile of things on the nightstand, for example...it could be even more cozy with less stuff.
I can see what the idea is here - the sort of shabby chic thing with lots of eclectic pieces, but the doll (!!!), tiny out of proportion tchotchke above the bed and the lampshades all askew are a real turn off. It reminds of that spare bedroom at grandmas that gets all the leftover stuff put into it. Maybe the pictures just don't do it justice?
I think it's more original than a lot of the campy/mod decor which is so prevalent in NYC. Many people are afraid to express their personal style with so much detail, color and curvilinear line, but she's done a fine job.
I think if you are going to go traditional, you should go with a traditional wall treatment. The white wall look makes the headboard disappear, and I think you would want to showcase it more. Perhaps a wall paper, or a nice light color?
What's most startling about this picture for me is that I have the exact same comforter - Tommy Hilfiger from a few seasons back. I had had a dark maroon and blue one for years and wanted something much more girly and found it on sale at Century 21 for $50! For a King size! And then I found out why! I washed it and, since there's no way to open it up and just wash the cover, all of the filling moved to one side and was impossible to reposition. I spent an evening opening up the seam and replacing the kind of nasty fill with a down comforter.
I kind of play against the girly-ness with more kitschy modern design pillows like a bright orange flokati pillow. This bedroom is sweet, points for the comforter, but a little too girly for my taste.
First of all, can we say mega points for posting?
I'm not wild about it personally, but you can tell someone lives here and enjoys it. That alone bumps it out of the blechhh category for me. Plus, I agree with all her tips. And it's refreshing not seeing an overly "done" room.
i like the nightstand as well, and the headboard and bureau. i think they could all work better together though- maybe a coat of paint is in order. also the chair looks comfortable but would be cozier with a floor lamp or pendant- something to read by. it's really just the bedspread that throws me off.
I think a slightly lighter version of the chair blue on the walls would take you to a new level, and make that red night stand pop off the charts.
Max is dead-on about the headboard. I missed it entirely until s/he pointed it out and I like the room much better for seeing it. A bit of contrast there would be a big help.
I think that it is neat. It looks girly, but there is a little bit of funk mixed with nostaglia.
Paint the headboard and maybe even the dresser similary to the nightstand and I like the idea of using the blue from that chair on the walls. Get rid of the trinkets. Find a nice large painting to go over the bed and some nice rich drapes for the window. This room has a lot of potential, but my favorite part is the cat! I'm giving it a so-so.
Holly Hobby died in that bed.
Individually, I admire the cool, funky objects she has in her room. But when you put them all together, something is preventing them from "coming together." The dresser, the bed, bedspread, and the lamps go fine together. However, the dark wood night stand and the blue chair would be better elsewhere or painted and re-upholstered, respectively. As for the wall art, you either need a lot more of it to cover the walls or to get rid of it. Right now, the paintings seem dwarfed and scattered.
way too fru-fru for my taste. for me, it's neither fun nor whimsy, but rather cloying with its frills, lace, dolls and florals. but to each their own taste. i suspect at least it was put together with intention. i cannot tell if this is a room for a very young girl or an elderly woman.
I happen to like this girly room
It's great to see some creativity of mixing bright color w/ the floral comforter and furniture from different periods.
this looks like someone really lives here instead of some boring mid century look.
(and of course the cat is a nice accessory )
As an interior designer, I want to say this room in horrid! Whoever put this together obviously had no sence of style whatsoever!
