apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

I Cook! Kitchen Slapup Crowns Angela

2005_3_24_vote2.jpg

2005_3_23_ang.jpgIt's over. Phew! What can we say? After all the warm hearted sharing and general good-natured commenting of the past two weeks, dark-hearted competitive instincts took over, pushing John and Angela to the forefront where they met no equal. You can't keep a good man down, but Angela managed to keep John down with a late surge just as he got close.

Congratulations to all! And to our nearly 400 voters
(our best turn out ever)

Now, before we announce our next contest (SMALLEST, COOLEST APT.) would Angela please start a thread below...

and tell us what prize she would like. The other contestants should read the thread and choose their prize one at a time (in order of finish). That will work, won't it? Also, if ALL 17 contestants send us their name and address, they will get a small token of our appreciation for sharing their homes. Best, MGR

So, I'd like pretend that I haven't been obsessively refreshing my browser window all morning as I eyed this close race. I'm so floored by the other kitchens (esp John's and Aida's) and I am surprised and extremely flattered to have won. It's been so gratifying to share my kitchen redo with the AT community though -- there's only so much friends want to hear about Plexiglas sources and paint colors (btw -- the orange is carrot stick by benjamin moore). All of the entries and all of the comments are so enthusiastic and inspiring, just participating is satisfying enough, let alone winning.... wait a minute. Did I mention I could use another Wusthof knife? I'll think of you all whenever I'm slicing and dicing.. Thanks MGR!

Hey! What fun. I have to admit when I saw Angela's orange, I knew we were not going to go all the way. Great work.

Congratulations to Angela and thanks to everyone for opening up their kitchens for all of us to ogle and comment on. What great kitchens. So much depends on the photos that are taken of the space to get any feeling for it. And lighting and color are so important. I'm planning to steal Angela's backsplash concept, including that glowing carrot stick.

I love these competitions!

So true that photos make a big difference (and people love color).

Please don't forget to email or comment here and let us know what your prize choices are, otherwise I'm going to use them this weekend...;-)

I'm sorry, didn't mean to bury the lede. For my prize I'll take the Wusthof pairing knife please.... John, you're next. Pick your kitchen goodie...

CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS! I loved everyone's kitchen, especially ours...hehe. My husband (John) didnt even tell me this was going on!! I mean I didn't know that the voting would end yesterday.

Anyway, since I am the wife and I am the cook of the family, I have to admit before the renovation, I didn't know how the kitchen was going to look. And honestly speaking, I have never enjoyed cooking for our family as much as I do now. Even the clean-up is a cinch! We love to entertain right there by the island and the entire kitchen makes a great conversatin piece too.

Well, John has asked me to choose our prize. My first choice was the pairing knife, but I can see Angela has already chosen that. So I think we will go with the cutting board which I can also use as a serving tray to put grapes & strawberries & cheeses. This was fun!

John hurry up and confirm your prize so the next person can choose their kitchen goodie too.

Yes, it was really fun contest. All the kitchen were nice! I'm probably disqualified because my kitchen is in a small house not an apartment.
If I'm not disqualified I pick the chopping board.

thank you all!

Aida, I'm still coming to you if I need a kitchen designed here in NYC. If I move West, John and Enrique will have to co-consult with me on a west-coast version!

Congrats to the winners, and thanks to all for an amazing and spirited dialogue about what makes a kitchen "work."

ah HAA! I KNEW there could not be an apartment kitchen whose owner claimed "no compromise"!! Did anyone else know John's kitchen was in a house? Sure, it's nice to see, but this is APARTMENT therapy. I say, maintain it as such. No compromise.

I suppose the final ruling is up to the judge, but although we don't know the exact square footage John's kitchen layout looks compact enough to fit in many apartments, though not all NYC apts. Aida's also seems no less spacious than John's although hers is I think in Brooklyn. We all had fun and got to see some wonderful kitchens and I say let him keep the prize.
