Messiest Closet Honorable Mention: Carol's Place

Note: Though our prize is limited to Manhattan, we can't resist showing some other entrees...

Copy of 2004_12_6_messy carol.jpg

Name: Carol
Hood: In a never-ending gut renovation of an 19th c. frame house in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Dimensions: approx 6'-8'

For the record:

  • Contains: All his & her clothing, shoes and accessories, towels and linens, vacuum cleaner, boxes storing work clothes (this is largely a diy project), hamper, cell phone charging station, etc, etc.

  • Project: This could be largely considered an intervention because as its not filled to critical mass just yet, it soon will be. The days of properly hanging things are over, so the days of tossing items over anything hook or corner-like has begun. It is quickly becoming a big black hole.

  • Bright idea: Oh yeah, and if this was the "not the brightest idea in the world competition", we would win for putting a glass pocket door on the whole mess.

6' x 8' is HUGE. I am so sick of these people with big or multiple closets thinking they have it so bad. I have one- one closet. No pantry, no broom closet, just one closet. Although it's not small- it's 4' x 3' maybe, it's not walk-in material, and 6x8 is.
I took pics this morning and I am entering.

Before you get too huffy, I think that's 6 to 8 feet wide, and it looks like it's the main closet in the place. Even in Brooklyn, 6x8 would be a small room...

virtually any square foot space called a closet can be fitted out in a practical manner utilizing virtually each square inch.

all of these messy closet issues boil down to peoples habits, organization skills and priorities.

discard, simplify, clean, organize, come out of your closets amd lastly grow (up or over or away from) from these issues.
