Small Sofa Competition: Zoom Sofa Wins!

2004_7_Zoom Sofa at CB2.jpgDrawing gasps from hardened furniture shoppers everywhere... The results are in. After two weeks of voting and 121 individual ballots, Apartment Therapy readers consider the youthful Zoom Sofa from Crate & Barrel's new CB2 store the best small sofa going (76"Wx37"Dx31"H).

2004_7_zoom sofa from side.jpgWith a kiln dried hardwood frame (not bad), aluminum legs, linen/cotton fabric covering (not bad either - available in red or brown), solid foam core and costing only $699, the Zoom easily won out over such high class rivals as the Wegner Daybed ($6,000), the Eames Compact Sofa ($2,795) and the Le Corbusier ($3,995).

2004_7_low wood sofa.jpgPrice point rules. Coming in a close second was another inexpensive choice: The Low Wood Sofa from West Elm ($599), which has a similar armless shape, but strikes a much more urban, sophisticated pose with its dark wood and thick, chunky profile. Interestingly, Ikea's Klippan sofa ($249), the cheapest alternative, placed poorly as people seemed to stay away from the cheaper construction paired with blocky, mid 90's styling.

We thank all of our readers and voters and look forward to more pooling of our collective voices in evaluating more furniture choices soon. If you have a good idea for a competition you would like to see run, let us know. MGR

Admittedly a cool-looking piece-- but DON'T DO IT! You'll come to hate owning a sofa with no armrests. (why? because if you're alone you'll want to lounge, not sit, and it's tough lounging without those armrests. Pillows and the like always fall off. And if there's a group of people, the person in the center is great - everyone else has the sensation of maybe falling off). Besides, no one will buy it from you once you tire of it.

I just moved to a 1.5 room studio space and am looking for the perfect brown tweed 2 seater sofa/loveseat/couch. Was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a modern/simple style that is (hopefully) under $1000.

The closest one is in the (hahah) Axe Body Spray ads all over the subways. It shows a 2seater brown tweed couch. Has anyone seen it? or know of something similiar?

Thanks guys!!
