Country House Inspiration: Cottage in Loire Valley, France

0721_cottage1.jpg

You know the little farmhouse in Babe, that movie about the pig? That setting has always captured our imagination. Now we think we've found that place in the flesh, in this little vacation cottage in the South of France...

The cottage is tiny, with thick stone walls and heavy timber beams. The interior is all in a fresh, light, blue. And it's located in a garden setting that we're dreaming about this afternoon. What a neat escape at about $600UD per week in the busy season. Check out more details and photos of the cottage here.

Babe was a good movie. "That'll do pig".

But I highly doubt that Babe (the film about he talking singing sheep hearding pig) was filmed in France, unless France is a suburb of Roberston NSW Australia. Cutely there is a little cafe there called the Pig & Whistle.

Can someone please explain: Why rent a 'rustic' cottage that has been done over to look like a featureless hotel room on the inside? Seriously, that interior decor has nothing to do with the architecture or the setting - it could be anywhere. I'm all for mixing old/picturesque and new/convenient, but I don't see any mixing going on here.

Ah, I'm glad someone else mentioned that the Loire Valley is not in the south of France, and is not considered as such either. It's most definitely central.

I've stayed in much nicer places in the Loire, real farmhouses that are now B&Bs, with truly amazing, traditional interiors. This one is indeed very bland inside... come on AT, you can do better! :)
