Some of the details of this residence, designed by Kaplan Thompson Architects, are expressions of humor in design. Take, for instance, the custom coat rack inside the rural home's front door. The hammer and axe "hooks" hanging from a rough-hewn beam are a nod to the woodsy locale...
The Falmouth, Maine home is designed to appear as if it is a renovation of a rural barn. Even the project's name, Barn Door's Open is giggle-inducing. But the humor doesn't stop there: check out this reference to the home's name in the bathroom:

How would you install that beam?

I wouldn't call it "twee." Tongue-in-cheek, maybe?

I'd so accidentally brain myself on one of those hammer hooks. Interesting, but very themey.

i love it :-D it is "solid" enough to not be just a short term joke, i think.

There's absolutely no way we could avoid a head-to-hammer incident with that coat rack in our house.

personal safety was my first thought, too

Mine too. I would immediately tear several tops (if not breaking skin in the process,) and would probably end up known as Patchy due to the lost eye....
Although if I saw it in someone else's place I would be properly impressed.

Sally, I meant it's he-man twee. Too cute in a lumberjack kinda way.
