J. Morgan Puett's Artists' Colony: Romantic Decay
The New York Times 5.29.08

The New York Times loves to profile some kooky homes. In the past year they've shown us a Funhouse in East Hampton, Arizona's Eliphante & Hippodome and Pearl Lam's Shanghai Loft. This week, they're sharing J. Morgan Puett's Eastern Pennsylvania artists' colony, Mildred’s Lane...

The 96-acre property and outbuildings in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania are creatively-curated (even inside the refrigerator!) by Puett. The home of the artist/fashion designer and her son, is an experiment in "romantic decay". It's basically like living in a steam-punk version of an Anthropologie store. Be sure to check out the story,
In Her Own World
, and all the pictures in the slideshow.

I laughed out loud this morning when I saw this (probably very expensive) mess. I especially loved the precious photo of her artfully arranged frig and her quote, "It makes moving through the banalities of life stimulating."

Too, too, too, Darhling...

It makes me want to lounge around in an vintage silk robe while drinking endless cup of tea and reading Sartre...

Hmm, nice placement of the giant hook over the bed.

Oh, it's so good to take a break from pristine white walls and MCM (pretty, clean, and practical, but can also be sooo boooring). Love to see a bit of age and grunge.

Definitely not boring and full of character. I'd love to live there.

It is SO great to see things I haven't seen in 10 other layouts.

Soooooo . . . art students are going to pay $1500 for the privilege of fixing up HER place. Nice little racket she's got going there.
