The house is one in a collection of modern summer homes in Suffolk, England. When its last owner, a ninety-year-old woman who had lived there for 30 years, moved out, fashion designer Margaret Howell moved in. The home's story, along with a great slideshow, is archived in the House & Home section of The Independent.
We love the contrasting kitchen cabinetry, the open timber beams, and all that vintage furniture (some of it purchased by Howell from the previous owner). Photos: Andrew Hayes-Watkins
This is very nice. If done right, I love the look of wood panels on walls and on the ceiling. Gives a much more intimate feel to a room. Wish I could do it to my own home, including the ceiling beams.

I love the kitchen--so light and airy.

How beautiful. I guess I have a stereotype image of fussy, crowded British houses with teapots and chintz everywhere. This is so open and airy.
