I have enjoyed every submission that made it to the finals. All of them except for these shelves. They just do absolutely nothing for me. If these shelves win over the competition, then I guess this guy's buddies like to vote... must have posted on every message board he's ever been on to get the votes. Painfully obvious in the preliminaries. Cheap looking, i dont think they'd withstand weight of many books with two mounting points, and if they were shipped to your door they would probably come in a box of 1x1 sticks with some screws for you to assemble yourself... I can go to the lumberyard and buy that myself.
The NOMAD lamp isn't exactly my style either, but I could own one. Pricey, as was everything else in this competition, but I can dig it. It's got a clean look, not overly.. "hey look at me!!" (which I like in a lamp.) Recycled materials is always a bonus...
NOMAD gets the vote.

I'm with kcdan on the Nomad Lamp! and even more, I actually like it's earthy feel.
I voted for it fully expecting it to be in the lead , but alas it isn't.
IMHO the bookshelf was't a fresh idea, and is just a another bookshelf.

sadly as demonstrated in the preliminaries, thats the price you get for handcrafted furniture. most of these artist work by themselves for themselves and dont have the giant machines to mass produce these things. im not a fan of either but will be siding with the lamp, not only are the bookshelves seem plain to me, but its tough to see the craftmanship in them after already seeing the hello blocks.

I agree with amwake, after seeing the Hello blocks will any other bookcase ever do? So, though I am not terribly impressed with the lamp, it has my vote.

The lamp is a little modern for my taste.

The lamp has potential and is definitely better than the shelf.

Love the simple lines of the lamp. Like the new shade

the shelves are ok but they are better then the lamp

Fin Juhl needs a John Water's pencil thin Moustache to complete his self portrait.
We rolled the dice to choose our answer & the Nomad Lamp got our vote.
Wonder if boxerchick would dig the lamp if it had a Tree Bark Shade.
Just a random Thought. Something to get your feather duster caught in...

Lamp is pricey because of where the designer lives! Did you see that place? THe design itself ain't nothing special, no way, no how.

My world will not be the less for the lack of these two items. Forced to choose, I'd go with the bookshelves because of their nice proportion and the element of the horizontally shelved books among the verticals. Nice. The lamp just irritates me---making me as rational as everyone else here today!

The shelves are my favourite in this design contest, because they're so uncomplicated, but yet so functional and beautiful.

Cool house, but bad lamp. I like the simplicity and design of the book shelves. They can clearly hold the book weight and they have a nice free floating look to them.

The bookshelf is clever. The lamp is inspired. I would like the lamp in my house. I might like the bookshelf in my garage (if I had a garage).
I don't think I want that bookshelf in my house though. But one good thing about it is that it has ends to hold the books. Too many metal contraptions have open ends and you have to think about book ends (which might not hold).

I liked them both and had a hard time picking which one was best. I decided I could see the shelves in my own place. And I don't know the designer, lol.
