It's nice, but this trend is really getting tired.

18 bucks a square foot for what appears to be some 5th grader's notebook doodling? For real?

I find this particular design kind of irritating to look at. All of the elements have equal visual weight and they are randomly placed, which gives the eye nowhere to rest. I keep trying to find a pattern in it but if there is one, it is very hard to see.

I love wallpaper. Just not this design.

Too many big dripping splotches. Makes it look like your 5th grader's notebook doodlings are being attacked by a school of mangled jellyfish.

The colors/contrasts are also way too harsh. Maybe a tone on tone, or just a textured, monochrome wallpaper would have been a better way to go.

I like it because she dared to do it.

I like the idea but I think the shapes are too large and too close together. It's very busy and would compete with all the furniture in the room.

I think it's a great pattern. It's very architectural and whimsical at the same time. It reminds me a little of some of Paul Klee's drawings.
I would love to see a reversed white one black version. I could also see this pattern working really well on textiles. Have you ever thought of screening on fabric?
I don't think this trend is really dead. There will always be a need for wall coverings. We might as well have some good ones like this to choose from.

It's so busy I couldn't relax with it. No place to rest your eyes or your mind. Seriously, this is my idea of an impending headache. Clever doesn't necessarily translate. Actually, realized I'm really sick of clever.

I don't love this. Call me crazy, but I feel like I've known about Nama Rococo forever. Didn't you used to be in Cincinnati, and then you moved to NW Massachusetts? I think I've actually been a fan of your work for a while, but maybe I'm thinking of another wallpaper studio with a similar name? I guess I'm wondering if this contest is open to established designers -- maybe my reference is confused, though.

Agreed that it doesn't give your eyes anywhere to rest. I look at it and I can feel my eyes bouncing all over the place. Though I do think that the magenta on white is a little easier to look at than the other two, for some reason... less contrast?

Fabframes - I was also under the impression that this contest was only open to designs that were not yet being mass-marketed. Maybe I'm misinterpreting the rules page.

Thanks for posting those links. it's interesting to see how different the comments are one D*S. People generally like the wallpaper over there but not so much over here.

My understanding of the rules is that this contest is open to anyone but that the designs cannot be already licensed to or already be in distribution through a commercial manufacturer. If the designer is independent (doesn't matter if they are established or not) and is manufacturing and distributing the products themselves, then it's fair game.

Hmm, I thought Nama Rococo was sort of famous for high-end, hand-crafted wallpaper. In fact, I'm sure they've been featured on AT before. I'd love to see more submissions from students and up-and-upcoming, unknown designers here, although I do love me some good independent design from established studios as well. That said, this is not my favorite Nama Rococo offering, though I really like their work.

Wow, I love this paper...it's very unique and the rest of your collection is stunning!  This is not like any wallpaper I've ever seen....it's got a very mod cool architect feel to it and it's very artistic.  Kind of cool that its sold in sheets in case the (read: my) budget doesn't allow for a full wall!  Good luck!

redbeard, I think you'll find that any remotely negative comments posted to design*sponge don't get past the moderators, so it's probably not the best place to look for balanced viewpoints.

As for this wallpaper, eeek. I feel tense and jangled just looking at it on my computer screen.

Wow...love this. Color choices are bold and striking and the pattern is simultaneously simple and sophisticated. Great for a clean & modern flat anywhere!

I adore it and second everything that Philly said.

looks like very quality craftmanship and with some very interesting application possibilities... will watch this space.

I think it's amazing. I like things that are creative and outside the box. I would like to see a whole wall of it.

I think it's really interesting and even if you wouldn't buy it, makes you change your perception of what could go on your wall. Plus, her other stuff is amazing...

This may not be your best pattern having seen some of the others before, but it's still better than anything else I've seen. Some of the comments above are quite elementary, really - I thought AT catered to a more interested audience, however everyone is entitled to their own opinion. To Karen's credit - art is quite subjective, and based on the comments I think it's safe to say your wallpaper really is a work of art! Great work. Keep it up and keep the patterns coming!

nice for a focal wall or entry space where cluttering objects are at a minimum.

the name of the design sits terribly with me. to name your piece with a defining "random" is bizarre. i am sure the placement of each geometric pattern was carefully considered and placed with proper spacing in relation to the other shapes [and to the panel as a whole]--so why call this random? it undermines your thought. random should be erased from a designer's vocabulary.
