STEEL Series by Nathan Goldsworthy
Design Showcase 2009

Materials: Mild steel, powdercoat
Price Point: Large: NZ$883.00 Small: NZ$673.00

"The STEEL range is a series of objects constructed from steel wire and finished in a range of powdercoat colours. The form is loosely based on that of a table, and is generated by joining alternated triangles to create a strong, stable object with a solid top surface....."

"The spaces between the structure provide discreet places in which to put magazines, books or games.
The objects focus on simplicity and utility, and are non-specific in their intended use. They emphasise purity of form and colour, and are treated as shapes rather than as functioning objects. They attempt to remove or reduce the complexity that has become inherent in much of the 'stuff' surrounding us.

In these pieces simple principles of composition and form reclaim their rightful place and are allowed to dictate the object’s use. The Steel objects are for indoor and outdoor use."

This looks like 70's string art. Wouldn't it be great if these were really made of string?

"They attempt to remove or reduce the complexity that has become inherent in much of the 'stuff' surrounding us." I think I just threw up in my mouth... a little.
