Who Says: This appeared at 1stdibs.com a couple of years ago. (Unfortunately, the link no longer exists.) This is one of those images that puts me right over the top. If I could, I'd build a whole, big, stone and timber house in the wilds for it. If a faerie godmother gave me a wish, I'd wish for this troika--and its aforesaid house setting. If the world seems out of kilter, I'd sit in it by a roaring fire and read Tolstoy, Turgeniev, or Dostoyevski while drinking tea from my samovar!

Oh I'm so sad that someone let such a beautiful sleigh fall into such horrible disrepair. That grey mush of fabric on the seat was probably once a beautiful red velvet. I love antiques from this time period...it's so much fun to imagine the beautiful couples who went for a ride in this sleigh, bundled in their furs, all rosy-cheeked, and the steed who once pulled it. I always wonder...when was the last time anyone stepped into this sleigh, and why? This was normal, daily winter transportation at this time...very unlike our big heated chunks of mechanical metal today!
