masthead2.jpgAmong Dumbo's many furniture stores, Wonk shines as a great place to go for well-designed, functional and modern pieces. Started in 2004, all of their products are made locally in Brooklyn and are truly "inspired, thoughtfully designed, and reasonably priced."

Our favorites are the Carroll lacquered shelves ($325), the Boris Dining Table ($975), and the Home Office setup, which reminds us of a grown up David Netto collection.

Can anyone who owns some Wonk furniture comment on its durability?

I've had a Clermont credenza and a Devoe nightstand for almost a year, in the light bamboo finish. The pieces look as good as new, with no scratches or stains. The one imperfection is that the drawer mechanisms don't feel that sturdy, but they still work fine -- no squeaking or any other problem. I would buy Wonk again and have recommended them to friends.

The turnaround was also far shorter than promised, which is a rarity!

zinka, did you have to assemble the credenza? I think it looks fantastic, but I have reservations paying over $1000 for furniture that I have to put together myself!

No, as far as I know, everything Wonk makes is assembled for you. This is not Ikea-grade furniture.

I checked in a week ago and it seemed to be melmaline or wood veneer over baked particle board. It's not ikea, which is unbaked particle, thats for sure, but it's not much more than a step or two above it. I cant imagine it lasting 30 years-as like my 1950's tables, 1880's table, and 1950's danish modern stuff has , know what I mean? Plus the designs just aren't very special. Boy, am I ever picky!

I just purchased some Wonk cubes about a month ago for bathroom storage. The pieces look great and appear to be built really well. I was able to save on shipping by picking them up directly from their shop in Williamsburg. Nice to have something built custom locally.

I have a bed, two night stands, and a chest of drawers from Wonk. I love them all. The bed and stands are bamboo ply, so they should and are holding up very well. The drawers are walnut veneer. A lot of "classic" furniture is veneer, I wish people would get over their concerns with the technique. Well done veneer holds up very well.

The bed is especially fabulous as (with the exception of the drawers) it slots together with no fasteners. You can re-flat pack the bed when you move!

Dining tables can handle hours of the old in-out. Having kicked it with the furniture designer, I highly recommend the product for its strong legs and superior finish.
