Julian Chichester: English Aristocrat

2004_12_6_julianfloors.jpgMakes Sting look modest. Question: Who else could write this on their website:

What made the aristocratic Englishman, Julian Chichester, turn his back on the business world of the City of London and reinvent himself as one of the very best transitional designers in Britain today?

Answer: Only Julian Chichester, of course.

2004_12_6_julianmirror.jpgDue to a question from our reader (posted today) we went to check JC out and were impressed by the odd, English, cozy and luxurious look of this furniture line. JC calls his line "transitional," meaning somewhere between modern and traditional - not quite in any niche that you might want to put him in. He does lovely work with mirrored furniture and his complete line consists of tables, chairs, sofas, beds, lighting, accesssories and storage.

JC is high end, typically only selling to the trade, but some pieces are sold at Mecox Garden (962 Lexington Ave - 212.249.5301) as well as at Hinson & Co. at the D&D Building (979 Lexington Ave. - 212.688.5538).

Nice stuff. So Noel Coward. But in a "successful Broadway revival" kind of way.
