5-11-hilfav2.jpg5-11-hilfav1.jpgWho was your favorite entry and why?

We really liked all the other East entries, but really liked Nicolas' Mini Loft for an owned apartment and AAD's as a rental. Both were very clean and airy without compromising comfort.

What's your next improvement?

Our next improvements are to create more book boxes, make log stool seating at the entry that doubles as a cat scratcher and storage for Tony's new bike.

This is so very clever and the photography explains it all so well. The bed structure diagram is much appreciated. I love this place!

how comfortable are the covey stools?

love the structure, very well laid out and cleverly designed. like the use of the metro shelving but the homeness that ties it into the covey stools via the plywood.

The drawings REALLY help in deciphering what's happening here. It's quite brilliant.

This apartment might be my favorite this year, which is saying a lot since there have been some really good ones! I'll also echo what SpanishOlives said. Seeing those photos left me feeling so inspired.

Anyone thinking about entering this contest in the future should look at the photos for this entry as a guide for how to photograph your apartment. Talk about well done!

Said it before, said it again. My favorite. Phenomenal apartment.

The apartment is brilliant, the pictures are great, but I wish the video was a walk through of the apartment rather than a video of the cat!

This is even better (and it was already great!) with these additional photos. So clever. Love the pic of the cat running down the ladder.

I think this was my favorite (although it's hard to remember them all!). So smart, and great for inspiration.

And to echo what was said above, this entry should totally be used to illustrate good apartment photography.

I love that wall with the prints and the map! Very clever space, and just the right amount of homey.

I love this place. Pretty tired of seeing cats, though.

This is the only east coast entry I would be willing to live in.
(Not that anyone has asked me to move in with them.)

Good luck in the contest. I lurv the cat video.

Mystery solved! (about how your cat gets down... I haven't even gotten to the new pictures yet... I had to watch the video five times first.)

There were some that I liked, but none that I loved. Until now. Tasteful, clean, functional, non-cookie cutter and small (some of the other places are huge for NYC standards). The privacy curtain around the bed is a nice touch. I think the Covey stools summarize your apartment and style. Well done. I'm truly inspired.

Woohoo!!! I am so glad you made it! I love the extra photos and the modular-design graph, it helped understand how it all went together. Very nicely done with the freeze-frames of the cat getting down. You're awesome, very nicely done. The great thing is, your apt is so amazing that no prize could possibly give you as much satisfaction as just looking around would.

really neat place! Yeah that video is worthless - not really about the space but more about the cat... we all love our pets but does it really belong here?

a nice idea for the loft structure, but the rest of the apartment is just not that appealing, especially the bathroom and the kitchen.

I loved, loved, loved this entry when I first saw it! It stood out among the rest b/c even though they were all very pretty, I just couldn't imagine how I could live in those small spaces. This is the only way I could ever do it! I'm sure of it. The use of every space in the main room is awesome. Pretty just can't compete w/ that.

Elegantly designed for the lives of the people who live there. Nice indeed. But I really wanted to respond to the several "why the cat video?" comments . . . If you look back at the original entry and its comments, and you look at the comments here, a couple of themes emerge:

1. The photographs do an outstanding job of describing the space already. (So what could a video add?)
2. The plans explain the loft construction very clearly. (So what could a video add?)
3. But people really wanted to know how the space, especially the loft, worked for the cat. (So what could a video add? Well, it could show us how the loft design works well for all the residents, by showing how the cat copes with the ladder.)

So kudos for the cat video. And congratulations on the win!

I -love- your place! I am curious though, how high are your ceilings? You've inspired me to do something similar but I don't think I have the ceiling height.

Thanks! Our ceilings are a little over 10 feet and probably the minimum you'd want to have to do something similar - the loft platform is 6 feet which leaves a little over 4 feet above the loft & just enough space to sit up in bed/kneel.

They're pretty comfortable - as far as stools go - and we like that they're height adjustable

i HATE this room! (i dont have high ceilings, and I am envying your cat. )

ps i actually love this house and If i could cope with sleeping an inch away from the ceiling, I would do it! )
