2005_8_12_obscurafront.jpgThere is no odder little store for housewares and accessories than Obscura. Run by Mike Zohn and Evan Michelson and nestled on the side of 10th street, it is a treasure trove of obscure, slightly nefarious antiques and collectibles, and every now and then there is a gem of a find tucked away inside.

2005_8_12_obscura-(2).jpgObscura caught our attention for it's unique collection of old school and desk lamps that we used by a client's bedside. They have many antique lamps in the shop. They also sell mounted deer heads, old photographs, laboratory glassware, clocks and animal teeth.

Our favorites were the shell casing lamp in the window and the funky diner clocks that we've always wanted and never yet bought. MGR

I want to go there right now.

Doesn't seem like typical AT fare, though.

We're weirder than we care to admit. ;)

i love AT more and more every day. i lived above obscura for four years. i definitely miss seeing two-headed stuffed goats, glass jars of newts, etc, every day. my roommate and friends and I bought lots of birthday gifts in that store (an authentic fez, and said jars of newts).

sigh, tenth street.

How great to see something like Onsura get some AT love. It is a great store but - small so if you go you might not think much of it at first but take your time.

Obscura Antiques & Oddities has moved to a new location at 280 East 10th st. We are on the same block as before, but across the street and closer to Ave A. Stop by or visit our website for more info. The new space is a bit cleaner and easier to find items, but we still carry the same assortment of items.
