1005_28_tiny1.jpgThey've improved their website! Tiny Living has been getting pretty good reviews, and continues to work hard at building up a design base in the East Village.

Roland says: Small but good selection of home furnishings/accessories, and not too overpriced. It's similar to Lancelotti. There's not much furniture though.

1005_28_tiny2.jpgDedicated to maximizing the potential of small apartments in the city, Tiny Living sells a variety of "small, multi-functional, flexible, organizational and cleverly designed items for all areas of your home." Flor Carpet tiles, Eva Solo carafes and Vessel low tables on the site, but to really see what is going on you have to go to the store. (Thanks, Roland!)

Their website is pretty frustrating.

I went downtown to check it out last weekend. I can't say enough great things about this store! It's about time we get a store that has the small NYC apt. in mind. It has everything that makes living in small spaces more efficient. Check out the one cup coffee maker (like no other I've seen) and the tape dispenser the size of a quarter! But the prices are the best. Great things at great prices. GO!

This is good news! I hope they offer more than just furnishings down the road. I've often thought there must be *someone* out there who would create a store for small space living. It's way overdue in NYC, the need is so obvious. One that would encompass ALL products for small spaces such as compact appliances (.ie. combo washer/dryers), convertible furniture (bookcase that revolves and hides a bed), etc. Tiny wine racks are cute but if someone can create an emporium for the really practical products they'd have my undying devotion.

Joan, what an understatement!
Almost as bad as gracious home's website which has not changed in, what must be approaching, 3 years.

Having said that, I wish tiny living well and hope to venture East some time to check them out.

I LOVE Tiny Living!! - I've already shopped there a few times because their stuff is looks good, is priced well and solves some of the problems of small spaces - a cool brushed nickel holder for keys that holds mail as well; brightly colored broom/mop holders; a vinyl computer keyboard that you can put away... Visit the store - the website gives just tiny (no pun intended)taste of what they have -

UGH...why tease us Los Angelenos with this? You are evil I tell you...evil. I want a Tiny Living here!

Hmmm. Not sure why they bothered with a website. 8 product shots and minimal info on the store?

Adam--Check out Fitzsu Society on Melrose (2 blocks east of Fairfax).

Hello all- Thanks for your enthusiasm for Tiny! Sorry our website is so basic- we just opened and wanted to get some minimal information up for people trying to find us on the web. A Tiny Living online store is in the works and should be up and running by early 2006. Check back with us! Until then, our physical store is open daily from 11am to 9pm...

I went to Tiny Living today and it is really great. It is kind of like Lancelotti & Mxyplyzyk but it has different stuff. Good luck to them!

I can't say that it was all that. From the outside it looks cute but its not a very original idea and there are many other stores in the neighborhood with more product and function. I was not impressed by the prices or the staff. not really worth it.

I just spoke to Gretchen at Tiny Living, they're working on their website since it's currently all these matrix style numbers and letters all over it... I've heard a lot about them though and really want to check them out next time I'm in NYC!

They should have set up a blog on blogspot or somewhere simply to show off some of their stuff. I realize an ecommerce site is a very different undertaking but displaying more of their wares would be better than a static web page.

BTW, for those that did not know, Gracious home's web page simply said "we are working on building a full on line site where you can order blah blah blah" (or something like that) for about 4 years until about 9 months ago. I think it still said that when I first posted above.

I still wish tiny living all the best and will check it out when I find myself in the EV.

TINY is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I love that they carry samples of FLOR and a few well thought-out European hardware/store items like clothes drying aparati, etc. While tiny gifty knick knacks are ok..i think the store focuses too much on them (and even appears overrun with tiny STUFF). Tiny bud vases and tiny picture frames can be found at every home/gift store in the EV. I'd love to see more products with a minimum of 2 uses. Multifunctionality is the key to tiny living. So in the end, I agree with Trish—convertible furniture and small appliance (especially the washer/dryer combo) are great ideas for the future of TINY.

I can't seem to log onto their website. can you give me the name of the 3 little tables (white/red/black) stacked from the photo above? I'm sooooo getting them. thanks~!

I hope to see actual products on the website, rather than just advertising links. Potential customers abound but if you do not have inventory for web sales --- at least show us what is in the NYC store with pics, product details and price ranges! thanks, M

those stacked tables are the 'squat' module, made by vessel. you can see them here:

vessel's stuff is always cool - they are the folks responsible for the candela as well.

Astute observation! It's no coincidence that newbie TL reminds you of the design sensibility of well established Lancelotti. One might ask TL's proprietress and see what she comes up with, but be sure to duck out of the way of karma's boomerang.

posted by everett on 2006-03-07 16:41:29

The owner of TL was actually once a Lancelotti employee. I think her name is Wretched? How nice of her to open a store just like them only 3 blocks away. I don't think there is one original idea in the whole store.

posted by James on 2006-03-08 18:17:45

Wow, such mud-slinging from the Lancelotti camp! You can continue to bad mouth us in your own store, but to do it in a forum such as this is very unbecoming of you. Sorry if you're not happy that we're here, but I do not fear karma because I've done nothing wrong. Oh, and I like "Wretched". You folks are very clever.

posted by Gretchen on 2006-03-12 13:44:53

Sorry James but with that kind of attitude only makes me want to run away from you Lancelotti-likes... and I haven't been to either stores yet!

posted by EVGal on 2006-04-19 17:56:37

Dear James,
Does being holiday helper for two days a week/a total of an entire month really count as being a back-stabbing vengeful ex-employee?
Wow.
Does the same go for ex-bartenders who open bars? Like if I worked in a bar in the East Village, I mustn't open a bar of my own anywhere below 14th street?
I once answered phones at a company for about a month, is it ok if I answer my own phone?
Lancelotti is nothing like TL. They do not cater specifically to small apartments. In fact, I used to be surprised at how impractical, albeit nice, their assortment was.
After reading the comments here I certainly will not give them any of my business, since I suppose they are the ones spreading this rumour.

I could be just me but some things seem priced really high like that black slide sofa, the exact one was at target a while back for like half that price
