A few weeks ago we went to Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, New York (20 miles north of NYC). The meal was spectacular, but it was the simplest component that really wowed us…

After the meal, we were offered a tisane &mdash a herbal tea or infusion using any leaves BUT that of a tea plant. A wooden cart filled with potted herbs and lit with tea lights was pushed to our table. Our waiter snipped off leaves for us to smell and helped us choose the herbs for our infusion.
We immediately thought that this was something that we could recreate at home. Herb plants from the Greenmarket, a bar cart and some beautiful scissors... We've been looking for an excuse to get beautiful Japanese scissors, and we're on the hunt for a vintage bar cart...
P.S. If you’re not familiar with the restaurant, Blue Hill at Stone Barns combines a working farm, restaurant, and educational center. Dan Barber, chef and creative director, has been a vocal proponent of farm to table dining and local food. (Note: The farm is open to the public. You can visit the animals and greenhouse, shop in the gift/bookstore and grab a bite at the Blue Hill Café.)

You can get cute scissors like that at Ochre on broome street. I've been wanting to get some for a while now for my Aerogarden.

If this is what wowwwwwed you the most about having lunch at this place, then I would say you live very high on the hog all the time.
AT if you are going to point out how bad people live in Mexico, then you really should stop flaunting your live style in a posh eatery in New York.
How rich are you all getting on this blog of high priced goodies for the rich and their pets.
Perhaps if the poor general people of this blog stop reading it and making comments your life style might go down the drain real fast. Just a thought:-)

This is indeed a lovely touch at Blue Hill. I think this idea may have originated with the venerable French chef Alain Ducasse. When I was at his restaurant in Paris in 2002, we were also treated to the tea cart experience with fresh potted herbs. Of course, in typical Ducasse-over-the-top fashion, the presenter of this sterling cart put on a white cotton glove to handle, snip, and steep the herbs. Crazy!

This is a really neat restaurant and idea. I like how they are promoting natural, farm-grown foods.
And, to comment on poptart's point: if you don't like the website, don't come here. I make sh** for money, and I completely understand that I probably couldn't afford to eat at Blue Hill. Most of us couldn't.
I don't know why you come here (you clearly hate it here- why do you even bother looking?), but I come here to gawk and get ideas. This is my porn.
There is nothing wrong with having money and living like you have money. We are not a socialist nation, and nobody is required to be charitable or have a bleeding heart 24-7. There is also nothing wrong with drawing attention to issues, like the housing issue in Mexico. It brings these things out in the open and makes people more aware...which is nothing but helpful.
Don't expect that because they decided to post one article about bad happenings in another country, that they are going to stop the presses and dedicate every cell of their being to the affairs of the poor. That is not what this site is about, and never has been.
So, please do us all a favor: get over it!

Makeamess-----this is a blog and we all have our view points---I do not mock you for loving this blog and all the wonderful things you see here. Do not mock me for my view point Or this is then, only a blog for people who love everything! I am far from the only person who points out things they do not like about this blog.
I also read the paper everyday and like and dislike much of what is put in front of me---does that mean I should stop reading the paper because I do not like things in it.
I watch TV and hate most of it ---should I also stop watching TV.
If you vote yes or no on this blog for liking or not liking some object (and I'm sure you do) then you are also putting out negitive attitude. After all, someone makes those items you vote no on and will be loosing money and income from your no vote.
I have eaten at Blue Hill maney times over the years and love the place to no end. I just found it strange that AT or (who ever) found the tea service the most outstanding thing going for them. Perhaps I read into it to much and found their comments pretences. For that I step back. After reading that article about housing in Mexico and how so many people feel Americans are causing the problems, it rubbed me the wrong way. If AT is going to post all types of information for us to read and view, then they also need to be a bit more careful and sensitive in their presentations and the sequence of these presentations.
