This single art photograph made such an impression on us during a stay at a Hudson, New York bed-and-breakfast a few years ago. It is an over-sized sepia print of a buffalo, and it was displayed in the grand entrance hall of the turn-of-the-century home...
The photo is by artist Valerie Shaff, available through the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson. At 30"x30", the buffalo was quite an imposing figure in the entry of The Inn at Hudson.
Pictured here with the buffalo print are images of the inn's interior, from the New York Times' New Wave Musicians in an Old-Age Home. We love the contrast between the historic home and this unlikely contemporary artwork housed inside. (Thanks, Windle!)

That lobby/staircase reminds me of an upscale (and green) version of the old Noble Hotel in Lander WY, home to the headquarters of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). http://www.flickr.com/photos/williamroth/1347091457/

I've stayed at this inn a couple of times and it is perfect -- the interior - beautiful common areas and rooms, the exterior - fabulous gardens, the location on a perfect street in Hudson - which is the best place ever, and the hosts - they could not be more awesome. And the breakfast is terrific. Glad to see it here!

Her photography is beautiful. I want that buffalo, and a lion and tiger.

Technically, that's a bison, not a buffalo. Cool photo, though.

jermbubba, that is exactly what caught my eye too! Something is terribly wrong in this image.

The bison's two missing rear legs are probably just aligned behind behind the two front ones. As for that hotel, damn. I'd visit Hudson just to stay there. Is the town still as great as the NY Times article makes it sound? Maybe it's time for me to switch coasts....
