Holy Crypton, Batman! Wegman is Doing Your Couch...

2005_1_7_wegman.jpg

Sooo cute. It is not news that William Wegman has been doing fabric with Crypton - which seems like an incredible marketing gambit given that he is a photographer of dogs. But it attests to the remarkable pull that cute animals have over our psyche that Crypton has created so much product around Wegman's theme. Do you think we'll see Sally Mann doing pillows soon, with outlines of her daughters?

Crypton is smart. They approached Wegman and his weimaraners because the saw "several lifestyle shifts centering on dog (pets), kids and family" and sought to market to this growing segment. They say that "over 29% of dog owners bring their dogs with them to hotels" and that the hotel industry has shifted to accommodate this. Interesting, but where are the cat lovers in all of this?

Crypton is also good. Behind the cutesy, doggy images, they have used a neutral and downtown chic color palette that (matches the dogs but also) pleases. Wegman has done 6 fabrics in 10 color ways with names such as Material Dog, Dog to Dog and Hound in the Round. All are stain, moisture, bacteria and odor resistant. All are available through Kravet or one of their representatives (800.645.9068). MGR

They are selling dog beds through DWR (Design Within Reach) now. You can also go to the Crypton web site and buy gobs of stuff made from the fabrics.
