Inspiration: Pierre Duex's Traditional French Prints

According to Jennifer Dwyer over at The Peak of Chic, Pierre Duex had quite the Southern moment in the 1980s. While we weren't exactly studying textiles in the eighties (we were working on tying our shoes), we don't really see these patterns as dated so much as begging for new context...

The company maintains an up-to-date and surprisingly vast selection of prints on their website, with a clearance section that rivals Chinatown prices (we're hoping the quality doesn't leave as much to be desired). They also have a line available through Kravet, who, though they remain To The Trade only, are a great source of inspiration and do have a showroom here in the city.

More Madeleine Castaing than Laura Ashley, we think these traditional French fabrics could suit a much wider audience, and a variety of situations. What do you think?Via: The Peak of Chic.

I'm afraid I'm sticking with "dated"

I think it's perfect for my grandmother, or in my imaginary French villa. . .

I based my entire kitchen renovation on this picture from Pierre Deux's website:

I never in a million years thought the bold Vera and Marimekko prints of my childhood bedroom would ever come back into fashion. And so many of today's "Fresh" prints are dead ringers for the wallpaper I ripped out of my first apartment.

They all came back. So why not Pierre Deux too?

OMG it makes me want to vomit....my childhood and teenage years were spent in a room that basically looked like they threw up Laura Ashley. Everything matched...from the curtains to my jewelry box. And everything else in the house looked like that Pierre Deux chit. I hate it. I never want to look at it again. It's like torture.

That couch looks like a larger incarnation of those awful soccer mom bags I see being carried around town. Ack.

I would bet money that ten years from now, cool 20-somethings will be going crazy for retro Pierre Deux and turning up their noses at MCM because that's how their moms decorate.

Comparing Pierre Deux to Vera Bradley or Laura Ashley is like comparing...oh nevermind not worth the effort...

I think lots of people judge things by who owns them, rather than on their own merits.

not dated at all, though the extreme overdone use of such textile patterns is. used in moderation -- as it would be in Provence -- it's wonderful.
