Why I use color:
Color has a great impact on our thinking and on our moods. With so many colors to choose from, why not stimulate your senses and help to create your day. Why do I use color? This is my house. This is my temple. This is my world, where I spend so much of my time. I believe your home is absolutely a reflection of who you are. You have choices and why not exercise those choices. Color can help you feel joy, feel supported, feel safe, and feel ownership. Home should express your identity like no other place!

I use color to express myself, to spread joy, to make my world reflect the energy around me. It is always a good day when you wake up to positive surroundings. My world makes me happy. I love the textures in the walls and I love the depth and the richness of the colors. I even painted my ceilings a wisteria so I can look up and see the sky. My surroundings help to influence my day and make me a joyful, positive person.
2 Good color tips:
1. When I am choosing colors to paint...I always head to the palette at the paint store and pick up all the colors that catch my eye. I take them home and spread them all out and go through them once more. I find color groupings that I like. I like to select three colors for my groups. Once I have some sets picked, I set them out and live with them for a few days. I feel colors can pick you. As you walk by, you will know what ones you are drawn to more than the others. Narrow them down until you have the ones you like.
2. Dont think about where they are going. Just pick out those colors that speak to you. You will be surprised at what colors you chose if you dont think of where they will go, but just react to them. We have such preconceived ideas of what everything should look like. Just go with your gut. Everything is going to be just fine!
2 good color resources:
1 & 2. My color resources are either Home Depot or Lowes and I also have a set of PMS colors...if you really want your choices in colors!
Yes!!! This is what I was saying about orange and lime in another entry posting ... here the colors work next to each other for me because the blond cabinets break up the area where they meet. (Plus, I like this shade of orange better) I'm not as wild about the second pic (I don't like the checkered floor there next to the dark orange wall) but as I can't see the whole room, I shouldn't judge the color scheme...) ;-)
looooooooooove it! great work!
While I applaud the boldness of this entry I wonder if the color wont feel dated in a year or two. Well.. i guess thats whats so easy about painting!
And kudos on showing us your color - not your designer furniture.
WOW, gorgeous color palette!
Absolutely amazing.
Oooh, I think this is lovely! What impresses me most is the way the colors work with that purple/green tile - was that something that was already in place when you got there? That's something I think a lot of people would try and cover up or rip out, but you've made the space work really nicely.
I love those giant leafy pieces against the green wall too. And like modfan said, kudos for showing us the color and not your furniture.
Wowza!
What is the exact color/brand of the ceiling paint? I love it. The whole place is happy, and I can see why it makes you feel so
positive. Good job!
And modfan --
outdated in a year or two? creative people are always evolving & changing and yes, repainting. often more than every two years.
your house is white, right?
My boyfriend and I plan on posting our Apt tomorrow... and i have to say, we've got a green/orange/(touch of)purple pallet as well. There's really a lot of it out there; I wonder if there's any theory about the significance of this combo on 1. the psyce, 2. social consciousness, 3. general design trends.... Anyone have any thoughts of their own on this??
Maybe it's the flash, but the blond cabinetry is a bit too blonde. I think something a little darker would work so much better. The only thing that comes to mind is pear wood, which I don't even know if it exists for cabinetry. Also the space feels cluttered which takes away from the colors for me.
This combo: green, orange and blue (though this appears blue-violet) is my all time favourite colour combination. You've done a remarkable job with it.
Why is it some can take these vibrant hues and create a day care centre and other create something hip and fresh?
This is hip and fresh.
Interesting color combos! Reminiscent of the Memphis movement of the 80's, somewhat...very alive!
Jenn: Orange and Green are considered "complimentary colors" as they are opposite each other on the color wheel. It is a very pleasing combination.
I love it as well, it always reads Asian to me for some reason.
I look forward to seeing your entry as well.
I love the colors, bold and saturated and think you used them well; however, I don't find any place for my eyes to rest - it appears just too busy.
I love the green orange blue combination. And your house has some very interesting and pleasing shapes. I love the depth of the upper windows, and that you've accented them with orange.
Did anyone see the last episonde of project runway? Remember the blue of Michael's living room and the orange of his shirt against it? fabulous.
This house reminds me of Halloween, so maybe it deserves to do well in this contest. But I feel that you can communicate your personality and outlook on the world without making your home look like a funhouse. I don't think this looks hip or fresh, sorry.
the colors do not compliment one another. you can have subtle colors that are not muddy. a lot of work and thought went into this, it kinda breaks my heart.
Great Design and color..and very livable, uplifting, lots of natural light.
Bold and beautiful!!! This is my favorite. You used a color pallette that is both unusual and made it into your own. I have never seen those colors work so well together. It creates excitement and interest and I want more...any more pictures?
Too over the top, too obvious. I think it needs to be more subtle, understated - you don't have to hit me over the head with the idea of fall, it can be small splashes of bright color here and there with quiet, muted warm colors. I feel like it's too busy and too much is going on, I think you can express so much more with a lot less touch. But, to each their own!
I like the first picture of the kitchen, although I don't get what's on the far wall. Art, but I can't tell what it is. I love the color scheme with the blonde cabinets. It's really fun and bright. The counter looks a little clutered. I'd prolly want to put more stuff away so the focus would be on the BEAUTIFUL kitchen.
I don't like the second picture. There's too many different styled...things. It looks like it clashes to me. But it shows a really interesting use of colors.
Good luck!!
ooh, baby! I loved all the color as a definite pick me up........I tend toward the neutrals but could picture living in this atmosphere for sure....funky without trying too hard.........
These colors are good together in theory, but really fighting fichting eachother here. I am a huge fan of orange but ... no

The whole color scheme just blows me away! The creativity is beyond my rhelm, offering a non artist person some hope.....hope that you will enter my world and shower your passion all over my home. This entry is by the far the most dynamic of the bunch. #22 wins hands down with me.
I'm GA-GA over that purple/green tile floor.
I LOOOOVE it!!!
Now we're talking! I've just been going through the East Coast entries, and this is the first one that works for me. Talk about color! This is just beautiful.
Love the orange - I just did my entry hall in orange. WHat color did you use?
