I'm not sure I understand the selection process for this contest. It sounds more like a high school popularity contest. As a designer and instructor I saw some really creative designs in the daily picks, but of the finalists and HM only one could honestly be a finalist in the creative use of color. There was a lot of creative use of color, unfortunatly it is not reflected in the semi-finalist.

I'd love to go but alas, I live in NY.

But, I'm still a little confused... there are 6 more finalists yet to be revealed? where are they? it's kind of strange to have so many left to be seen this close to the wrap party, no?

Kathryn--
With just a *bit* more notice, I might have been able to get to this. Bummer.

Jena,
Unfortunately the way the system works is by voting, and there arent enough safeguards to prevent tampering with the votes. In a fit of insomnia last night I tallied up all the votes for the contest thus far. With respect to AT I wont reveal their formula or the rest of the finalists. But I did find that the semi-finalists were chosen corresponding to the number of votes. Does this mean that they are the best entries? Or merely the best cheerleaders for their cause?

Some finalists have proven that they DO know how to use color. Other have fallen a little flat. There was an earlier assurance that the cream will rise to the top - but its sad that other qualified entries wont get that same chance.

AT: In the future how about trying a different system? Call for submissions, then post 7 entries a week. Have 1-2 guest judges each week pick a finalist, then select the winners from that group. That way you've got a clearly professional judging process. Anyone who watches American Idol (or American politics) can tell you the majority isn't always correct.

P2,

When are you going to come visit us in Chicago???

What happened to all the posts? Some of suddenly vanished. I think AT is erasing comments they do not agree with. Yikes.

I am not totally getting this... the Color Contest Party is in about a day and a bit, and there are still a whole whammy of finalists to see. No offense, but sheesh, when is AT gonna get their act together? In order to post our comments and opinions about the final entries, we need to SEE them!!!

I whole-heartedly agree with you, susan.

Okay, one more thing. Anyone.. were there 2 more finalist entries released today (late night Tuesday, November 14th) or is the total still sitting at Tyler's entry (I think 8)??
I hope I have not missed any! I am afraid my computer is going totally bonkers on me...

I just really really want to suggest my favorites before the deadline closes in...

Thanks, Susan

They're definitely deleting messages. I'd posted to this very page last night, voicing my displeasure with the way the contest has been administered, and now my comments are missing. wow.

before they started deleting messages I'd copied & pasted every negative comment regarding the contest into a word doc - it came out to be 14 pages long. And yet still no clear answers from AT - just them calling us "nitpickers". nice.

I thought I was imagining things, I thought I had read a funny comment by someone who is always nice and then later it seemed not to be there. It is somewhat unnerving when comments just vanish. Maybe there was an error of some type.??????

I just read AT's explanation for their "deleting" of comments.. and still kinda makes no sense. Oh, well, I guess they think they know what they are doing.

I think we have all had trouble with posting and sticking comments, so we'll just have to wait and see (I do miss some missing comments however). Maybe afer this controversial contest, all will be calm sailing again...

Hey, I just noticed that there will be a party at cb2 in Chicago and at Turquoise in L.A.!!
How about all us New Yorkers who want to party too? Damn...I wish there was a party for us East Coasters who couldn't make it out to the West or the mid-West. sigh...

can AT please designate one page with all the finalists so that i can view them in an orderly fashion? it's kinda hard scrolling all around or fishing for older posts in your archives. i think you did this last year?
