2 Good color tips:

a) use colors that represent your personality and don't be afraid to be BOLD and creative with your choices

b) Rather than trying to find colors that match, just make sure the intensity (hue value/brightness) of the color is the same (any two colors with the same hue value will always work well together (in most cases).

That apartment is possibly the best recruiting ad for "move to the Bronx!" in the entire history of Bronxness.

simply beautiful!!! I love your wall colors and where did you get your fabulous bed. I am also curious about the bed covering...where did you find it?

Beautiful! I love your orange walls and all of your furniture. One thing I'm trying to wrap my head around though... Are pics 2 & 3 of the same couch, coffeetable, and rug? The rug and upholstery seem different.

Love it! But, I'm confused about pics 2 and 3 also. The plant, the the rug, the couch fabric and pillows, artwork on the wall...all different. Hmm..

Hello everyone, thanks for your comments! To respond to Chalaundrai, the daybed is a 1950's Baker daybed I got at a shrift shop and restored it to it's original look. The bed-sheets/window treatments I designed myself and had a friend do the construction and sewing (I love asian style). The main bed is from West Elm (got the headboard separately, since I wanted something unique). Just in case, I'm not an interior designer, just love decorating for fun.

Pictures 2 and 3 of the living room are a bit different, I have two small dogs and had to trash the Flokati rug (the third picture is what the space looks like now). Same sofa, different pillows (and the angle is different). These two photos were taken a few months apart, I guess I didn't realize this when I submitted the photos to the site.

I already live in the Bronx (see my name below) and I love your place. May I ask where you're located? We're looking for a new place to buy or rent.

For everyone else out there, the Bronx is a fantastic place to live. It has more parkland than any other borough, and the buildings are fantastic (prices, too).

I love the orange, and also the layered textures - especially the bed and bedroom. It makes me want to make my bedroom lusher, right now it's all stark and minimalist.

I live in south Riverdale (near Manhattan College). Kingsbridge is also nice as well as Sedwick ave (don't know much about other areas). If you're looking to rent now it's a good time, you get a lot of space for your money and it's only 35 minutes to the city on subway.

This is a wonderful place. You have a lot of talent. Love the dramatic feature of the bedroom and that patio is to die for.

This is my favorite by FAR. You have a knack for mixing different elements and styles..asian/retro/modern. Your outdoor space makes me long for summer again. Plus the headboard and coffee table are amazing. Great job!

Love that bedroom! And that balcony, too. The living room is a bit much of a muchness for my personal taste. It works -- and works well -- but I'm finding it hard to really love the MCM furniture overload with the orange and brown. I like orange and brown, but it's looking too dated in combination with the furniture. Or, maybe, I'm just having flashbacks to my 1970s bedroom...

Asian style isnt my thing, but this is a Color Contest winner to a tee! this is exactly what i picture when someone talks about the use of color in an apt. its not just on the walls, its everywhere, but its not too overwhelming or in-your-face.

nice job, good luck!

Alex,
The bedroom and daybed photos are absolutely gorgeous!

I love the different shads of orange, and the curtains and bed canopy you designed look amazing. Kudos also to your friend who did the sewing.

I LOVE IT!!
Will you move in w/me for a while, and help me decorate??
I want a raspberry color, but scared to use it in such a small space. I think accent walls suck. So what should I do??

I absolutely LOVE your use of COLOR!! KUDOS!!

This is my most favorite by far. I hope you subscribe to the theory that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, because I'd love to reproduce the fabric/curtains on the ceiling of your bedroom. How did you hang the dowel rod along the ceiling like that? Thanks!

Love the colors, beautiful patio. Love, love, love the bed - where did you get it?

The dowel rod is hanging on invisible fishing wire (gives the illusion that the drapery is floating). For those asking about the bed, it's a platform bed from West Elm and the headboard I got separately at a second hand shop (I'm all about affordable finds).

Love the bedroom!

Did you plan for your living room table to look like a cat's face? If so, that is really cute.
