#26 - Traci & Jeff's Historic Homage

Name: Traci & Jeff
Location: Baltimore, MD
Type: 3 bedroom, 1200 sq. foot, 100 year-old rowhouse in baltimore that we've owned for two years and have been renovating on our own.

Why I use color:

Color evokes so many emotions and allows our home to become another expression of our personalities...

We like to pay homage to the historic bones of our home, showcase wee bits we've uncovered in our renovation and infuse it with a bit of humor and playfulness with color and color combinations. We just love to play around with color and always be changing it up.

2 Good color tips:

1. don't be afraid of trying something crazy. i'm a bit of a fly by the seat of my pants kinda gal and i'm always coming home with quarts or test tubes of paint. i'll try anything out to find the right color for a space and sometimes the best thing to learn is what colors don't work. i think mistakes are always really informative.

2. color doesn't have to be all over the walls of every room, the cleanliness of a white room with colorful objects enriching the space always inspires me. finding crazy ol' things at estate sales and letting them pop in a room is such a fun way to experiment with color and to keep things fresh.

Favorite type and brand of paint:

I don't have a favorite paint brand, i'm always going to different stores to look for new ideas. I do find a lot of great color with Benjamin Moore, but i can just as easily be wooed by Behr. I do love me a satin finish though.

What do you call that green color in the room where the dog is sleeping? It is a great bedroom color. Oh and I love the bedspread indeed!

thanks! we found the sofa at a local consignment shop for $100 buckaroos. actually everything piece of furniture in our house except for our bed is second hand. we're big fans of recycling!

Go Charm City! I too love the orange and blue combo, and the doggie art. Are those wide sofa arms hiding some storage? My husband and I live in Charles Village neighborhood and we love these historic houses!

the living room walls color is ionic sky by behr... it's so great, changes color all day long with the light outside.

the painting over the sofa was done by our good friend carlos valenzuela, an artist in seattle.

hey there charm city! i wish those sofa arms were hiding storage! instead they're a great place to sit my laptop and a glass of wine.

I love everything about your place! The colors, the coziness, the light. I want a media stand just like yours and I love the simple art above it!

Nice space, great pooch. Am currently in Federal Hill (yea Balto) and am always interested to see someone else's take on rowhouse decorating. Love the light streaming in from outside in the living room shot, are those windows original?

yep the windows are original and have built in shutters.

Looks simple and cleanly designed - but its hard to tell because all except the first photo are tight shots. The first shot is beautiful - but the rest dont give any idea about how the overall flow of the space works.

I really really love this - it's clean and simple and imparts a really wonderful feeling of calm... And it's not designy-designy, but it's still beautifully edited and fantastically thought out. Love!! And YEAH pups on bed rock!!

More comments on the color and less on the dog and the dog art. Geez!

Too many close up photos. Would be nice to see the entire rooms instead of focusing on tiny areas. Unless the big picture isn't that appealing.

Love the first pic. Gorgeous orange sofa with the pale blue paint. And love the graphic dog painting. The rest of the photos were a bit of a let down after that great first pic.

I am biased, though, I really don't care about people's shower curtains.

You are off to a great start, and I would love to see how your place evolves.

What is the color on the wall of the bathroom?

Love the orange sofa ... the shape is amazing!
I actually think the sofa would look even better against the blue-green color in the bathroom. It would be a bit more unexpected. But what you have is still nice!

So into blues and oranges right now. Love the blue tub. Did you paint it that color or did the previous owners?

the wall color in the bathroom is Benjamin Moore Antiguan Sky.

the coffee table was indeed a craigslist find but needed some help when i got, you can see for yourself right here:
http://flickr.com/photos/42404178@N00/227775905/in/set-72157594236744253/

the tub was painted by the previous owner but it worked really well with the colors we chose when we renovated so we kept it.

and those are FLOR tiles, heirloom in burlwood. they were (for us) a big splurge but have been so great.
