#31 - Peque & Papuchi Move Beyond Beige

(Note: We'll be posting more each day to fit in our 40 by Friday)

Name: Peque & Papuchi
Location: North Miami, Florida
Type: 2 bedroom house - owned

Why I use color:

I grew up in a beige home and when I got married I figured my home had to be beige too. For 13 years the walls and furniture were beige. A dear friend of mine and a wonderful designer opened my eyes to colors and helped me transform my home. It has made such a difference...

2 Good color tips:

1 - When painting a wall with a warm color such as red or orange make sure to use a dark primer (grayish) first. It will help avoid a translucid look.

2- Flat paint, when using warm colors, covers the area better and you might not need as many layers as you would with a glossy paint.

Favorite type and brand of paint:

Behr Premium Plus

I love that shade of blue in your living room! Especially since the color in my own home is very similar. :-)

Some may say that everyone's doing the aqua/brown combo, but it works. It may be in vogue now, but it'll ALWAYS look great. My living room is the same color combination and it's so relaxing and elegant. Amazing ceiling too, by the way. Bravo.

Not crazy about the living room, in fact it had my head swimming. But I absolutely love the child's bedroom! The shade of orange with the white accents is the best. Sunny, funny, soothing, funky, energetic, awake, and happy are the feelings I get just looking at it.

You have a winner with the bedroom.

Nice start in the living room, but I think if you introduce a third accent color and some pattern it could really bring some life to the room!

I agree, aweekingparis. I think you need a pop of a third color in the living room. With just the chocolate/aqua, it feels too "matchy-matchy", like you decorated it all in one trip to the store.

Lovely colors. Lovely home.

The living room chairs and coffee table-- where are they from?

I have been trying to find the right blue for months now. I love the shade of blue in your LR, what is the name of that color?

I like the aqua. I think that another great color combo that I've been considering (in the same vein) is a very soft and cool blue-green color...almost mintish...like the color of the side of thick glass (that's the iron, I believe). But combining that with a really warm grey. It works really well especially because you can then use a lot of glass and steel and iron and everything plays well together. Pulling colors from the natural materials you're using, in my mind, is the only way to go. Either that or using some kind of color that shouldn't be in nature at all, like some kind of psychotic neon. :-)
