"I LOVE it when people take something (like a ranch house) in a
completely unexpected direction-- it just makes me believe that we
don't have to accept things the way they are... there is so much
oppurtunity to change things for the better.
Another thing I love is the graphic elements throughout: an F here, a
C there. Those are such nice touches! I can tell this is done by a
graphic designer, and I think he's exactly right about what he's done:
he taken "what works in print to interior spaces."
Finally, I just enjoy seeing that John has made choices that I
definitely wouldn't have, and he's been completely successful with
them. Painting the walls that rich graphite color would (for me)
threaten to make the room too dark. Instead it is alive with the
colors and shapes that pop off the wall. Everywhere I look, I see
something delightful or unexpected. The rich colors, graphic layout,
and classic furniture pieces really do it for me."
If you lived in a white house, and you only had one color to play with, what would it be, how would you use it and why?:
If I lived in a white house and only had one color to play with, I
would cry. Then, I would surround myself with cheerful shades of aqua
blue. That color, to me, has such energy without ever shouting too
loud. It doesn't cast a pallor over anything, and it looks great
against white. I would probably paint most of the walls, and then find
every accessory I could that was some value of aqua blue. Then, maybe
some modern white furniture with nice, clean lines would be the final
touch.

I wouldn't mind a rug in the living room though, but I know how hard it is to find the right one, which I'm sure they will find. I love their sense of color and design. Bravo!

The red and aqua kitchen is gorgeous! I want to cook there.
Overall, I'd say the whole house has a bit TOO much color for my tastes, but if you're someone who likes color on the walls in every single room, each of these rooms work brilliantly.
What is the shade of paint in the masterbedroom, btw? And where did you get the pillows?

Holy Smokes! I currently have that exact shade of green in my bedroom (Pear Green by Benjamin Moore) and was planning on using almost the EXACT color scheme in my new apartment as shown here -- crazy coincidence! PLEASE SHARE THE NAME OF THE AQUA PAINT USED, so that i can stop hunting for it. Clearly we're on the same color wavelength -- help a girl out with some of the legwork! :)

The only problem I have is that with this much room, why is all of the furniture in the living room and bedrooms pushed up against the walls? From the photos it feels as if there's an expansive, empty space in the middle of each room...

oh i'm so excited to see that this is a finalist! this is one of my favorites because i'm just in love with the nursery. it's so cute without being too cute.
i love the color choices in this - love the light blue in the kitchen with the pop of the red cabinets. i've never seen this anywhere and you did it so well.
the dining room as well with its light fixture and small details is great.

This house makes me happy. It has a ton of very bold great graphic details. I really love the painting in the living room, it has a very personal feel to it. The pedestal towel rack in the bathroom is great and something about the colors in their are so inviting. I also think the flower selections as well as the bed linen and bold graphic pillows are the bomb. You really worked it out over there!

okay, thanks to my wildly-organized husband, I found our color chips (filed away in a folder, under "home improvement", no less.)
here we go:
dining room: american tradition "garden path SR703"
living room: american tradition "lake marsh SR710"
office wall (red): valspar "classic red 1009-2"
master bedroom: olympic "bamboo C12-2"
nursery: american tradition "frosty 5006-9B"
kitchen blue: valspar "fountain mist 5005-9B"
we bought all of these at Lowes.
