Not to start the debate again, but if the Dwell people's house wins, I'm never voting again. And with that, I will now shut up.

I don't think it will, even though it is very cool.
It's kind of the opposite of fall colors.
I think it screams summer.

For the last time - this was a color contest that happened to be held in the fall, not a "fall colors" contest.
I don't care for the Chinatown loft either...its color palette seems like it's based on some stereotyped idea of what kids like. But that's just me.

Oh, my fault.
Sometimes (most of the time) I'm a little slow to the game.
It does kind of make sense though? But then again, changing the color of your house with the seasons would be a little overly ambitious.
Thanks for the clarification.

I really love the Chinatown house. This family takes risks that mine never would and it seems like a really joyous place to be. I just wish I could be in that big room in the evening, to see what it looks like when some of those lamps are lit.

Oy, I can't believe THIS house is a #1 winner! How did that happen?

I don't like the Chinatown loft. It looked preposterous to me but I will say that I find it very interesting that with few exceptions every space that I liked became a finalist. Even more interesting and illuminating is that also with few exceptions, ALL of the finalists clearly had a large budget. All of the much condescending raves for horrid apartments thrown together by color blind grad students, midwestern school teachers, poor people and colormyworld didn't even get so much as a nod. In the end, good design won out over wild colors, idiosyncratic "creativity" and barebones budgets. I approve.

Regarding Edina's comment and without wishing to blow our own horn too hard, Mike and I pulled our place together on an absolute shoestring--nearly everything was bought off Craigslist or in junk and consignment shops here in Toronto. When we moved in together we sold nearly all of HIS stuff and nearly all of MY stuff and reinvested the proceeds in a fresh start with OUR stuff. We furnished the entire house for less than the cost of a single Papa Bear chair. To be recognized as a finalist up against some big money interiors is an unexpected thrill. We are grateful for each and every vote. Thank you.
